Walking with Walter Dog Training offers training for every dog and family along the Colorado Front Range. We specialize in advanced and basic obedience. In addition to obedience we provide behavior modification training with a focus on teaching owners how to properly communicate with their dogs. Like any relationship, communication is the key to success. Our training starts with a strong foundation built on the basics. We believe that a well-trained dog listens to its owners and will remain obedient regardless of the circumstances. Our balanced approach yields consistent results.

I have a 7 yr old bulldog who started growling at me when I get near his food. We've never had aggression issues before this started. He has never bitten me, but I am worried he will. What can I do?
If not addressed it can get worse. For the time being I’d recommend making your dog wait patiently while the food is put out. Do not allow him to “rush” the bowl. He needs to understand that protecting his food is an unwanted and unnecessary behavior. However, if you are not comfortable with that, contact me ASAP so we can get to work on changing his behavior.

Why does my 2 year old Black Lab bark every time the doorbell rings?
It boils down to your relationship with your dog and what you allow and don’t allow. If the dog barks and you tell it to stop barking and it does not stop then you’ve got some relationship building to do with the dog. Dogs must understand what good behavior is.

How old does my dog need to be before I start training?
You can start training basic obedience as early as 8 weeks old. In addition to obedience, this is the best time to start introducing your dog to as many sights, sounds and smells as possible. Call me or schedule an evaluation and I am happy to provide some guidance.

My 4 yr old German Shepherd pulls me down the street when we walk. I love my dog, but can’t stand taking him for a walk anymore. Can you help with a dog who has a mind of his own when on leash?
I am sorry to hear that walks have become such a chore. Yes, I can help. I teach owners how to train their dogs to walk nicely on a loose leash. If you are interested in a training session, the best place to start is with an evaluation.

My puppy is eating/chewing everything in the house. How do I stop her?
Chewing is very common with puppies. It is important to have chew toys handy as an alternative to a household item. Show her what is an acceptable item to chew on. The ol’ “this instead of that” technique. : )

Mulligan spent a week with Lawren and his family. They worked on improving behaviors that were on her naughty list. Mulligan learned to go to her “place” and remained calm when guests come to the door, or when we are working or eating in the kitchen. She no longer pulls me when going for walks. Lawren also came to our house several times to reinforce what she learned during that week. I highly recommend Walking with Walter if your doggy needs to work on eliminating naughty list behaviors!!

But he was often quite a handful, his worst problem having been complete insanity when being walked (plus a lot of other little behavioral things). We used Walter for a series of sessions and the results were phenomenal. Bobo is now a joy to walk and is so much better behaved than he used to be. But trust me when I tell you that it was as much about training us as it was about training Bobo. We had to learn how to be dog owners and how to communicate and act with our dog which led to a complete change in the whole dynamic. Walter can be trusted to give you the outcomes you want.
