Walking with Walter Dog Training offers training for every dog and family along the Colorado Front Range. We specialize in advanced and basic obedience. In addition to obedience we provide behavior modification training with a focus on teaching owners how to properly communicate with their dogs. Like any relationship, communication is the key to success. Our training starts with a strong foundation built on the basics. We believe that a well-trained dog listens to its owners and will remain obedient regardless of the circumstances. Our balanced approach yields consistent results.

I have a 7 yr old bulldog who started growling at me when I get near his food. We've never had aggression issues before this started. He has never bitten me, but I am worried he will. What can I do?
If not addressed it can get worse. For the time being I’d recommend making your dog wait patiently while the food is put out. Do not allow him to “rush” the bowl. He needs to understand that protecting his food is an unwanted and unnecessary behavior. However, if you are not comfortable with that, contact me ASAP so we can get to work on changing his behavior.

Why does my 2 year old Black Lab bark every time the doorbell rings?
It boils down to your relationship with your dog and what you allow and don’t allow. If the dog barks and you tell it to stop barking and it does not stop then you’ve got some relationship building to do with the dog. Dogs must understand what good behavior is.

How old does my dog need to be before I start training?
You can start training basic obedience as early as 8 weeks old. In addition to obedience, this is the best time to start introducing your dog to as many sights, sounds and smells as possible. Call me or schedule an evaluation and I am happy to provide some guidance.

My 4 yr old German Shepherd pulls me down the street when we walk. I love my dog, but can’t stand taking him for a walk anymore. Can you help with a dog who has a mind of his own when on leash?
I am sorry to hear that walks have become such a chore. Yes, I can help. I teach owners how to train their dogs to walk nicely on a loose leash. If you are interested in a training session, the best place to start is with an evaluation.

My puppy is eating/chewing everything in the house. How do I stop her?
Chewing is very common with puppies. It is important to have chew toys handy as an alternative to a household item. Show her what is an acceptable item to chew on. The ol’ “this instead of that” technique. : )

After many dog trainers and thousands of dollars we stumbled upon Walking With Walter at the farmer's market. Our lives have never been the same! Jackson does so many things he refused to do before (up the ramp into the vehicle) and stopped doing so many things he always did (lunged at other dogs). Lawren and Walking With Walter proved that you can teach an old dog new tricks. Jackson is 12 years old and unlearned so many bad behaviours. 1,000% recommend Walking With Walter for your dog that is "untrainable".

We worked with three different trainers and Lawren was by far the best. He understands dog behavior and his techniques were easy to follow. Our pup learned quickly. My favorite training sessions we’re going to Home Depot and Murdoch’s, dropping the leash and watching our dog stay while we shopped until we told her she was free. We have a well behaved dog thanks to Lawren. Highly recommend!
