In addition to obedience we provide behavior modification training with a focus on teaching owners how to properly communicate with their dogs. I have a 7 yr old bulldog who started growling at me when I get near his food. We've never had aggression issues before this started. He has never bitten me, but I am worried he will. What can I do?
If not addressed it can get worse. For the time being I’d recommend making your dog wait patiently while the food is put out. Do not allow him to “rush” the bowl. He needs to understand that protecting his food is an unwanted and unnecessary behavior. However, if you are not comfortable with that, contact me ASAP so we can get to work on changing his behavior.

Why does my 2 year old Black Lab bark every time the doorbell rings?
It boils down to your relationship with your dog and what you allow and don’t allow. If the dog barks and you tell it to stop barking and it does not stop then you’ve got some relationship building to do with the dog. Dogs must understand what good behavior is.

How old does my dog need to be before I start training?
You can start training basic obedience as early as 8 weeks old. In addition to obedience, this is the best time to start introducing your dog to as many sights, sounds and smells as possible. Call me or schedule an evaluation and I am happy to provide some guidance.

My 4 yr old German Shepherd pulls me down the street when we walk. I love my dog, but can’t stand taking him for a walk anymore. Can you help with a dog who has a mind of his own when on leash?
I am sorry to hear that walks have become such a chore. Yes, I can help. I teach owners how to train their dogs to walk nicely on a loose leash. If you are interested in a training session, the best place to start is with an evaluation.

My puppy is eating/chewing everything in the house. How do I stop her?
Chewing is very common with puppies. It is important to have chew toys handy as an alternative to a household item. Show her what is an acceptable item to chew on. The ol’ “this instead of that” technique. : )

Our experience was exceptional. Our 5 month old pup did the one week board and train and learned so much immediately starting from the initial consult. The one week was a complete fix with all of the items we needed help with. It’s amazing how much of our behavior concerns were dog + owner issues. Thankfully Lawren addressed what we needed to do as well to properly correct, reward, and effectively ask what we wanted from our pup. Having this done in one week was a huge time saver and such a value as I was unsuccessfully trying to teach one or two items every few days. So thankful for the time to have a pup that behaves! I’ll use this week board and train with any dog in the future!

Our two dogs participated in virtual training with Walking With Walter Dog Training. Great instruction for the dogs (and us) from Lawren has led to better overall behavior and more specifically better walks through the leash training! Exceptional experience and highly recommend!!
