I have a 7 yr old bulldog who started growling at me when I get near his food. We've never had aggression issues before this started. He has never bitten me, but I am worried he will. What can I do?
If not addressed it can get worse. For the time being I’d recommend making your dog wait patiently while the food is put out. Do not allow him to “rush” the bowl. He needs to understand that protecting his food is an unwanted and unnecessary behavior. However, if you are not comfortable with that, contact me ASAP so we can get to work on changing his behavior.

Why does my 2 year old Black Lab bark every time the doorbell rings?
It boils down to your relationship with your dog and what you allow and don’t allow. If the dog barks and you tell it to stop barking and it does not stop then you’ve got some relationship building to do with the dog. Dogs must understand what good behavior is.

How old does my dog need to be before I start training?
You can start training basic obedience as early as 8 weeks old. In addition to obedience, this is the best time to start introducing your dog to as many sights, sounds and smells as possible. Call me or schedule an evaluation and I am happy to provide some guidance.

My 4 yr old German Shepherd pulls me down the street when we walk. I love my dog, but can’t stand taking him for a walk anymore. Can you help with a dog who has a mind of his own when on leash?
I am sorry to hear that walks have become such a chore. Yes, I can help. I teach owners how to train their dogs to walk nicely on a loose leash. If you are interested in a training session, the best place to start is with an evaluation.

My puppy is eating/chewing everything in the house. How do I stop her?
Chewing is very common with puppies. It is important to have chew toys handy as an alternative to a household item. Show her what is an acceptable item to chew on. The ol’ “this instead of that” technique. : )

Lawren's experience helped us to understand our new 8 month old puppy. She hadn't had much training before we adopted her and needed a lot of help. He had us on the way to calm walks within two sessions! He has also assisted us in our home to help our pup learn behavior boundaries. He is always available for questions after your session to help you succeed.

If you're looking for a quality dog trainer, Lawren is your guy! We adopted a 2 year old pup during quarantine, and reached out to Lawren at Walking with Walter Dog Training (based on his great reviews online!). He's patient, knowledgable and truly cares about getting your dog trained to your liking! He gave us the tools to be successful at home on our own, and continues to touch base with us periodically to make sure we don't have questions, issues, etc. Lawren's training goes beyond the 5-week, hour-long training sessions. He's a lifetime resource, and someone that's helped us feel comfortable at home, and in public, with our dog. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Worth the time and money to have a lifetime resource like Lawren.
