Ohio State K-9 College

I have always loved dogs since I was a child. When I was about 24 Years Old (back in 1988), I was interested in purchasing a dog, but wasn't sure which breed to select to meet my needs. So, I opened my Local Yellow Pages and started looking at various dog training schools. I saw the Ohio State K-9 College ad and I decided to call and speak with Joey. Joey suggested that I come to the school and watch him perform a live demonstration with his dogs, So I did. My living situation changed and I was unable to purchase the dog back then. I have never forgotten how well Joey's trained his Female Rottweiler and Male Doberman Pinscher were trained. Fast forward to 2024, I finally purchased a dog. I decided to call Joey and ask for his help with my dog, after struggling for several months. After seeing his new live demonstration, I knew I wanted my dog trained using a 100% voice control method of training. Joey is very passionate about his work, and really enjoys explaining to his potential students (from start to finish) how he attains his perfect results. Joey explains everything they need to know to comparison shopping all Dog Training Schools. This is so they will be able to finally understand WHY he is the Best Trainer in the Industry.. After doing proper research and vetting, they are only interested in working with Joey, because they discover about how how other Schools training differs so much from his. It is obvious to the potential student that other Schools are not the right fit for their Dog, and they call Joey to request an evaluation.

A good friend had a litter of 8 week old, American Staffordshire terrier puppies and called to see if I wanted one.  I have alway been impressed with this breeds ability to protect their owner and family. After seeing the litter, I selected the puppy I desired and took him home to meet my kids. My kids and I decided to name him Oso, since his Fathers name was Kso. Soon afterwards, he started developing many undesirable behaviors: Barking, growling, and even snapping at my kids, including chewing on many different items.  I tried to train Oso on my own a couple months, but was very unsuccessful. So by the time Oso was about 4 months old, I employed a friend to help me train him. My friend told me that I needed to leave Oso with him for 4 weeks or so for the obedience and behavior training needed. Once I got Oso home, I found his obedience training was very inconsistent with the commands he knew.  While on-leash he would SIT after commanding him (2 or 3 times in a row) but, wouldn't obey when off-leash, including with the down command. Oso didn't obey any of these commands: Stay, come, and heel. Oso never showed any improvement with any of the behavior training issues, the trainer promised to fix. When Oso was about 8 months old, he wouldn't obey any of his commands (while on-leash or off-leash) so my friend told me to purchase a shock collar and I did. A couple days later, I got the collar and called my friend to teach me how to use it. But the results were nearly the same, even though I continued to work with Oso until he was 10 months old, however, he wouldn't any of my command when the collar was off. At this point, I was stressed out about all my dog's unsuccessful training and totally quit working with him. Then, I even tried to sell him on the internet, but no one would purchase him.  After I told my kids that I wanted to sell him, they were devastated, they begged me not too. For sake of my kids I kept him and started researching training over the internet and watching videos, hoping this would help, but it didn't. My dog was gradually getting more confused and much more stubborn as time went on. I was determined to get him properly trained and started calling professional trainers on the internet, but, most of them wanted to use a Choke, Spike, or Shock collar to train him, which my kids and I adamantly disapprove of. While shopping at Home Depot, I met a man with a Belgium Malinois, which was the best trained dog that I have ever seen.  His dog would obey every command on-leash & off-leash (with no equipment whatsoever), even with WHISPER commands and obeyed every command on the first command. Tom gave me his trainer Joey's business card and told me to call him and as soon as I returned home I did. Joey and I had a very through conversation. He explained everything that is good and bad about all training schools, so that I could understand exactly HOW to get my dog trained like Tom's. Since Joey has been in his profession over forty-six years, and after me seeing his work in person, it was a no brainer that I needed his help with my dog. Joey asked me to go to his, Joey Byas Face Book webpage.  Then click on his VIDEO link, so I could see the end results with nearly (all his training courses) with his students actually handing their own dogs trained by him. I did and then called him back and set my appointment for the evaluation testing for my dog & for my personal handling skills with my dog. Afterwards, I was so serious about getting the best training for my dog that read over 100 of Joey's student reviews on Google. These reviews compelled me to write a review of my own, explaining my experience with my dog's My ultimate desire is to get my dog obedience trained like Tom's dog, including the protection training COURSES my family desires.

After extensive online research and many conversations with a myriad of trainers, I chose Joey to train my 2-year-old Labrador Retriever. I liked his approach of not depending on food or pain to get one's dog to listen to them, instead relying on the dog's respect for and desire to please their owner as part of a mutually fulfilling relationship. Having learned a tremendous amount of information from Joey and finding his approach smart and methodical, I 100% recommend him and his training approach. You will find that almost all Joey's reviews are either 1 or 5 stars. This is because it takes a certain type of person to understand and appreciate the level of training being offered at Ohio State K-9 College. Joey understandably does not want to waste his time on those unable to understand, or unwilling to commit to the comprehensive system required to succeed. Having experienced this successful system, I am proud to say I am one of Joey's students :)

The Ohio State K9 College is the only school I could find that has a state of the art system of training. They have a Master Trainer with 46 years of experience that personally trains every dog and their owner. They are also the only school that has a 100% voice control method of training. They also only offer the best training possible for a dog and their owner, which is 1 on 1 training. In nearly 2 years of research over the internet, I haven't found any school that has the courses I need to properly train my dog for PTSD.
