Ohio State K-9 College

I have 2 words to describe Master trainer Joey Byas: Amazing and Fantastic. He spent 2+ hours of focused individual attention with me answering all my questions and explaining what he has been doing since he established The Ohio State K-9 College in 1978. Joey trains both the dog AND the handler. This ensures that the dog will achieve first command performance for the handler after graduation. His 100% Voice Control Method uses no choke, spike, or shock collars, nor treats for training. While talking with Joey I realized that The Ohio State K-9 College is the best school for my pup, and every pup, to receive training with their handler. Joey, once again I just want to say you are amazing. Thank you so much for every second of your time! Time is money, and this is quality!!!

My dog Rowan is a 95lbs , Newfoundland and standard poodle mix who just turn 1 yr old. We started going to Ohio State K-9 when Rowan was around 6-7mths. The transformation in him and my growth in training him have been nothing short of amazing. Prior to training with Joey Rowan had been to a “board and train” for 30 days and a 4 wk puppy course. I received very little results and would highly recommend that no one sends there dog to “ board and train.” The main issue for me was that the trainer assured me that Rowan had learned many commands…….. None if which I could get him to follow at home which is where it matters most! The expressed my disappointment to the trainer but soon realized it fell on deaf ears. Ohio State K-9 College is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE!! The HUMAN is trained by the Master Trainer Joey! Which allows the HUMAN to properly train the dog. You and your dog attend each session together, Joey teaches You AND your dog and then watches you perform the lesson and corrects you when you need. This type of training requires alot of patience, discipline and commitment on your part and the Master trainers (Joeys) part. In my opinion Joeys method is the above best method to train a dog . Joey has never been inpatient, unkind or lazy with me or Rowan …… even though there have been times where I was. He is VERY passionate about training my dog properly. Rowan is not a working dog, he spends his days playing and napping but Joey has been committed to training Rowan and I quality of working class and show dogs. Rowan has mastered commands using voice, whispers and hand only command. Prior to attending training at Ohio State K-9 College he was very excitable , and very undisciplined. If I were to list the changes in myself (as taught by Joey) and the changes in Rowan, the list would be endless. Highly recommend!!! 10/10

My name is Colin and I brought my 2 year old Belgian malinois to Joey the owner of Ohio State K9 College and he exceeded our expectations. Joey was able to correct the bad habits of my dog and we basically felt like we had a new dog after. Joey is very thorough and makes sure that you are the one doing the training so that your dog minds you and does the training style that you want to train for. Joey definitely has a passion for this industry and you can tell. I actually went to Joey a couple years back and I just reached back out to him because I have a baby on the way and we wanted to do some more training and he kept his word and remembered me even from a couple years ago and is going to do zoom calls so we can get the dog adjusted for when the baby comes. Joey insures that when you pay once for training it's for the lifetime of a dog and in my opinion That's worth any price. If you ever need touched up on anything or want to do more training you can always reach out to him and he will be there. Joey trained my dog for voice commands, whisper commands, and even hand commands. My dog still to this day listens off-leash and on-leash first command every time. I highly recommend and will definitely return when another dog becomes a part of our family!

I have had animals all my life. I love dogs. I want my dogs to be happy, safe and well trained. Because my 5 month old Australian shepherd/husky is going to be very large I need help training him to obey me instantly. I have grandchildren and I need to know they are safe. I want them to love animals as much as I do and I don’t want them to be afraid of this sweet dog. In the past I refused to have my dogs trained because I will Not allow them to be shocked or chocked. After discussing my concern with a friend, Joe was recommended to me. After watching his videos and learning Joey teaches 100% control by voice there was no doubt I was going to him. I was thrilled to learn my dogs could be trained without suffering. I have researched dog training and I refuse to have my dogs suffer to make me happy. I was horrified when I saw dogs being shocked, or pulled with a spike collar and chocked! Joey’s dogs learn to obey without suffering. He doesn’t use spike collars, he doesn’t choke them or shock them. I’m excited to know that my dog will continue to have the same sweet personality and obey me.
