Woodland Kennel

Our experience with Woodland Kennel has been exceptional! I looked all over the country to find a lab breeder that would fit what we were looking for. My husband has MS and needed a confident, happy go lucky dog that would bond with him. I needed a hiking, paddle boarding, all around adventure buddy. It was also important to me that the parents were treated well and had a life doing what they were made to do other than just being bred. These dogs are living their best lives. When I called and spoke to Geoff I told him I was looking for a very specific dog that had lots of energy, confidence and drive but also an off switch in the house. Oh and it has to be a chocolate male, he said “I can help you out!” Once his litter was born and settled, we received weekly updates, pictures and videos of Moose. Him and Dana answered all my questions and always got back to us in a timely manner. Our Moose is EXACTLY what we asked for. This dog is a ball of energy. He’s quick to learn and is a blast to train. He’s always down for any adventure and he takes his lounging very seriously too. After the devastating loss of our German Shepherd, He has brought so much joy back into our home. If you are looking for a WELL BRED Labrador Retriever, It’s worth every penny to go through Woodland Kennel! Geoff and Dana truly care about these dogs and their clients.

Three years ago, my family welcomed Buddy a started English Springer Spaniel from Woodland Kennels and we have been completely satisfied with him both in the field and as family dog. I benefited from Geoff English’s solid training foundation in Buddy. This has produced a dog that has been outstanding working the variety of covers in Maine, pursuing both the traditional English Springer quarry of pheasants in fields and hedges and the ability to learn rough field work in thick cover on the wild birds of woodcock, ruffed grouse and rabbit. Recently we started hunting ducks both from a blind and boat, and again he continues to excel. In all cases he has had amazing drive and retrieve instinct, which I credit to his exceptional breeding. To the naysayers who say an English can’t effectively work the North New England woods for woodcock and grouse I have the proof that a well-bred and trained dog from Woodland should absolutely be considered. I first met Geoff and Dana at the Springfield Sportsman Show in February 2016. After having talked to him that day and Geoff getting my information as far as what I was looking for in a dog I headed home. Later on that day my wife and I sent him a deposit to get on his waiting list. We were fortunate enough that Geoff had a cancellation later that year and that’s were our relationship began. We went to his house they had one puppy for us to see and we couldn’t have been more happy with Geoff’s pick he made for us. We were anxious to get Cole into Geoff’s training program. Having never trained a dog to the standards that Geoff does there was a huge learning curve for me. In total we sent Cole back to Geoff probably three times for a total of about 8-9 months. For most people that might seem like a lot, but I knew I had a very special dog and I wanted him to reach his full potential. Cole is great goose dog a Senior titled hunter and there is know doubt in my mind he would have been Master titled if I was a better handler. Don’t get me wrong, Geoff helped me a ton teaching me how to handle Cole for hunt tests. Three years later I purchased my female Maggie from Geoff. I told Geoff that my intention was to breed Maggie with Cole. Geoff keeps impeccable records of all his breedings and once he had what he thought was a complimentary match for Cole we were on our way. Maggie was sent back to Geoff’s twice for training, and Maggie is also a great goose dog. Fast forward another three years and it was time to breed Cole with Maggie. I cannot tell you how much Geoff and Dana helped us with our dogs breeding. We sent both dogs down to Geoff to breed. Geoff did testing on Maggie to check her for maximum fertility and a week later I picked the dogs up and headed home. Maggie had a litter of twelve puppies. My wife, who is a nurse, leaned on Dana quite a bit and Dana was unbelievable during the process. I believe that Dana has one of the best breeding programs around and Geoff has the patience and passion to be what I know to be an exceptional trainer along with his son. I can state this as a fact Geoffrey English cares about your dog as much as you do and if you listen to him and do what he says you too can have the best dog you will ever own. Ken Galindo

Absolutely love our dog from Woodland Kennel. Great temperament, easily trainable and amazing drive. He can easily handle a 10 mile hike then cuddles up with the kids after. He has never demonstrated any signs of aggression or dominance towards people or other dogs. He is praised every year at the vet for his health and manners. I’m not a hunter, but I chose Woodland Kennel for the athleticism of their dogs. They exceeded my expectations. If you’re looking for an active working dog this is your breeder. And for reference, this is my third lab and third breeder. I will be going back to Woodland Kennel when it is time for my fourth.
