Questions & answers

From Google

What people have asked about this business.

I have a 7 yr old bulldog who started growling at me when I get near his food. We've never had aggression issues before this started. He has never bitten me, but I am worried he will. What can I do?

If not addressed it can get worse. For the time being I’d recommend making your dog wait patiently while the food is put out. Do not allow him to “rush” the bowl. He needs to understand that protecting his food is an unwanted and unnecessary behavior. However, if you are not comfortable with that, contact me ASAP so we can get to work on changing his behavior.

Question on Google
Why does my 2 year old Black Lab bark every time the doorbell rings?

It boils down to your relationship with your dog and what you allow and don’t allow. If the dog barks and you tell it to stop barking and it does not stop then you’ve got some relationship building to do with the dog. Dogs must understand what good behavior is.

Question on Google
How old does my dog need to be before I start training?

You can start training basic obedience as early as 8 weeks old. In addition to obedience, this is the best time to start introducing your dog to as many sights, sounds and smells as possible. Call me or schedule an evaluation and I am happy to provide some guidance.

Question on Google
My 4 yr old German Shepherd pulls me down the street when we walk. I love my dog, but can’t stand taking him for a walk anymore. Can you help with a dog who has a mind of his own when on leash?

I am sorry to hear that walks have become such a chore. Yes, I can help. I teach owners how to train their dogs to walk nicely on a loose leash. If you are interested in a training session, the best place to start is with an evaluation.

Question on Google
My puppy is eating/chewing everything in the house. How do I stop her?

Chewing is very common with puppies. It is important to have chew toys handy as an alternative to a household item. Show her what is an acceptable item to chew on. The ol’ “this instead of that” technique. : )

10 Stars! 1,000% recommend! We finally found the right trainer! My Nala girl is a rescued, 2-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/Husky mix and has the sweetest spirit at home, but new places/people/dogs/things outside the home could turn into a nightmare of an experience. She would get selective hearing, start to pull, and get reactive around other dogs and sometimes people. We’d tried other trainers in the past but had not been able to effectively address these hurdles. I felt like we were a bit stuck and just weren’t progressing. We came to Lawren to get ‘unstuck’ in our training. During the consultation, he provided such valuable information and things I could immediately start working on with Nala to get her to engage with me more in new environments and around higher distractions. I felt we made more progress in 30 minutes than the hours upon hours I’d spent with previous trainers. Also, Nala took to Lawren right away making him the first trainer she’s ever befriended - ever! During training, Lawren has just been a phenomenal educator. He explains everything so clearly, makes the homework easy to understand, and is such a calm and patient leader. I left every training session feeling inspired to do the work and have fun with Nala along the way. It’s turned our walks and outings from nightmares into adventures I get to take with my best friend. It’s also helped me communicate expectations more clearly with Nala and give her more freedom as we help her make the right decisions on her own. Since working with Lawren, we’ve been able to take Nala to several walking trails, go off-leash at a park and even go to an outdoor mall and coffee shop - all major milestones that several weeks ago I could not fathom I’d be doing with Nala at this point. I can’t thank Lawren enough! This has been a transformative process for us, and Walking with Walter will be our go-to for training moving forward.

Fantastic dog trainer. Highly recommended!! We have worked with several dog trainers over the years, but have no hesitation in saying that Lawren (aka Walking With Walter) is, paws down, the best that we have worked with. Our poodles are pretty high-energy, and prior to our ‘Living With Your Dog’ training we struggled with a couple of behaviours that were taking away the joy of going on a walk: Leash pulling, and going nuts around other dogs. Walkies was a challenge, and no longer something to look forward to. From the first lesson with Lawren, we learned techniques that resulted in a step change in their behaviour. We explained our goals, and, along with some insightful questioning, Lawren was able to quickly diagnose the issues and provided recommendations on what we could do to remedy them. By the time our course was complete we were able to walk with pooches with confidence again. Every lesson felt like it had a new ‘aha moment’ where a door of understanding was opened. Lawren was a great teacher, and really fun to work with. Thank you Lawren. We’ve rediscovered that joy of going for a walk. Priceless.

Our dog Harvey just finished a 2 week board and train with Lawren and I can’t overstate what a difference it has made in our house. We dropped off a very rambunctious doodle and picked up a calm, collected and responsive dog. From the first appt, Lawren really listened to our concerns and provided a training plan that fit our needs. Lawren is very easy to talk to and gives clear directions to improve you communication with your dog. The board and train was perfect for us because Lawren laid the groundwork and then taught us how to continue working to keep Harvey on the right track.

Couldn’t be happier with the help we’ve received! Beyond worth the cost and the best investment we’ve made. Lawren is very knowledgeable and fun to work with. We have three dogs: two are puppies and one is a 10-year-old Dachshund named Chunk who is reactive and has suffered from separation anxiety for a long time. Lawren has been a great guide to managing a household of pups and helping us relieve Chunk’s anxiety. You have to do your homework and continue to practice diligently, and so far we have seen amazing progress in all of the pups! We’ve also been able to reach out to Lawren in between training sessions if we have quick questions and he’s great about getting back to you with more help!

I've worked with a few trainers before but none were able to produce results like Lawren!! My dog is easier to walk, more engaging with me outside, and all around more obedient! Lawren explains things well and my dog enjoyed working with him!
