In addition to obedience we provide behavior modification training with a focus on teaching owners how to properly communicate with their dogs. I have a 7 yr old bulldog who started growling at me when I get near his food. We've never had aggression issues before this started. He has never bitten me, but I am worried he will. What can I do?
If not addressed it can get worse. For the time being I’d recommend making your dog wait patiently while the food is put out. Do not allow him to “rush” the bowl. He needs to understand that protecting his food is an unwanted and unnecessary behavior. However, if you are not comfortable with that, contact me ASAP so we can get to work on changing his behavior.

Why does my 2 year old Black Lab bark every time the doorbell rings?
It boils down to your relationship with your dog and what you allow and don’t allow. If the dog barks and you tell it to stop barking and it does not stop then you’ve got some relationship building to do with the dog. Dogs must understand what good behavior is.

How old does my dog need to be before I start training?
You can start training basic obedience as early as 8 weeks old. In addition to obedience, this is the best time to start introducing your dog to as many sights, sounds and smells as possible. Call me or schedule an evaluation and I am happy to provide some guidance.

My 4 yr old German Shepherd pulls me down the street when we walk. I love my dog, but can’t stand taking him for a walk anymore. Can you help with a dog who has a mind of his own when on leash?
I am sorry to hear that walks have become such a chore. Yes, I can help. I teach owners how to train their dogs to walk nicely on a loose leash. If you are interested in a training session, the best place to start is with an evaluation.

My puppy is eating/chewing everything in the house. How do I stop her?
Chewing is very common with puppies. It is important to have chew toys handy as an alternative to a household item. Show her what is an acceptable item to chew on. The ol’ “this instead of that” technique. : )

Called because I was having some issues with my Puppy, he chatted with me for a little and talked about what it could be. Seems like we got it figured it out and he gave me some training advice as well. Smart guy that knows dogs and seems very nice!
Our training sessions with Lawren were a significant benefit to our Labrador puppy and us. I appreciated Lawren inquiring of our issues at each session and helping us and our puppy to correct them. Lawren was very knowledgeable, professional, and sincerely engaged in teaching our puppy and us. Private training sessions with Lawren were definitely money well spent.

We couldn’t have asked for a better trainer to help us along the way and teach us life long skills to help Hendricks be the best dog he can be. Having to be proactive and hands on way the best way to learn and train Hendricks as well as ourselves on how to live happily with your dog. If you’re looking for puppy and/or dog training, we would highly recommend Walking with Walter as Lawren is extremely knowledgeable and helpful along the way!
