South Central Texas Dog Boarding & Training

We enlisted South Central Texas Dog Boarding & Training (SCTDBT) to help with our 9-month-old German Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Ruby. As anyone familiar with this breed knows, they’re energetic and full of life. Ruby exhibited typical puppy challenges: jumping, chewing, leash pulling, and excitement when greeting people. While not a “bad” dog by any means, we needed help addressing these behaviors, especially with our busy schedules juggling two kids and full-time jobs. Paul, the owner of SCTDBT, stood out from others in the Austin area due to his individualized approach. From the start, he clearly outlined his training methods and commands, ensuring transparency and alignment with our goals. We quickly learned that Paul wasn’t just training Ruby — he was training us as well, building a partnership between owner, dog, and trainer. His facility is top-notch: spacious, clean, safe, and meticulously maintained. Even during the colder months, the kennel was warm and insulated, providing a comfortable environment for Ruby. Paul’s approach includes intentional distractions — whether through new environments or noise — to challenge the dog and reinforce focus. After just three weeks, we visited Ruby and were blown away by her progress. She was calmer, more obedient, and responsive to commands like “wait”, "come", and “free.” For the first time, we experienced loose-leash walking in the heel position and a polite greeting without jumping. During our next visit, Paul trained us on how to reinforce Ruby’s new skills at home, giving us the tools to maintain and build on her progress. Since bringing Ruby home, training remains ongoing, but SCTDBT has built a foundation to help us succeed. Paul has also committed to being a "lifelong resource", always available for questions and guidance. This was our first time sending a dog to a board and train program, and it exceeded our expectations. Ruby is an integral part of our family, and Paul’s training has helped her develop the manners and obedience we value.
