River City Obedience Training

My Standard Poodle, Blue, and I just finished an 8 week training course with Sue Torpy at River City Obedience Training. We both loved it and learned so much. Sue's knowledge of dogs and dog training is extensive and I learned much more than the obedience skills we practiced. She laces her teaching with training concepts and theory, so I learned not only how to train the dog, but why it worked and how to trouble shoot problems in the future. Sue's demeanor exhibits a quiet authority and my dog loved her. He would bounce out of the car every week for his lesson to get a hug and pet from Sue before we would begin. He didn't seem to notice he was learning to be a beautifully behaved canine citizen. He just thought these lessons were fun and reveled in his new found skills. Thanks Sue. Blue and I will miss our lessons, but intend to come back for some advanced training, so we can show in obedience. Can't wait!!!

I have been using Sue Torpy for my labrador training for 13 years. My dogs have attended her training classes (group and individual) and stayed with her for extended training periods of up to 10 weeks. I have also used Sue's dog sitting service. I have a very shy dog. He is afraid of people that he doesn't know. Also, he is very cute, and people love to run up to him and try to pet him and he backs away. I called Sue and asked her if she would walk my Pooch (his name is Tango). I told her over the phone about his shyness. She understood because she had a dog just like that. When she arrived she did not do the usual ... Oh, isn't he cute and run up to him to pet him. She actually sat down and ignored him. He eventually came up to see her and she handed him some doggy treats. He warmed up to her slowly. She did all of the Pet Sitting/Dog Walking for me while I was in college at UNO. Tango got so that he loved his walks. I would recommend her for pet sits, dogs or cats and for training. She seems to know how a dog thinks, and she is very patient. SG

Before I bought Lucky, I never had a dog that was my own. When Lucky arrived, Sue helped me train Lucky in obedience. A good trainer recognizes that a dog needs to be trained in a variety of places in order to proof your progress with your dog. Sue is excellent in promoting this theory. We went to her training facilities, local parks, etc. training individually and in groups. Within a year, Lucky won his Companion Dog Title! Afternoon 14 years, I can say, Lucky's obedience is still very good. When I get my next dog, you can be sure that I will contact Sue for lessons with him. I would recommend Sue to any individual needing canine training.
