Bottom Line: If money is an issue, the price may be prohibitive. Just like you wouldn't go to Mitchell's Ocean Club with a Red Lobster budget. It would have been great to know that upfront so I'm telling you now. But the price is more than fair for the service. Full Review: My goal is to write an objective review. I did not sign up with OSK9 but I did complete an evaluation today (12/6/2022), which is why I can only give 3 stars to be fair in either direction. I do believe Joey is an excellent trainer and I would have enrolled but his services were out of my price range. Like most people, I tried to gauge if I could afford to train my dog even before adopting one because I want to be a safe and responsible owner. The "starting price" he mentioned after our first phone call was the deposit amount for the Total Control Course. Giving the benefit of the doubt, perhaps I misunderstood that to mean the course could be as low as that price, assuming your dog was a young pup and had the best potential for training. In selecting a dog to adopt, I switched from looking at a dog 1-2 years old to a puppy in order to be able to afford the training. I was interested in adding the personal protection course as well, which I disclosed. I was hoping the evaluation would give me the quote for both Total Control and Personal Protection. I was trying to be transparent about my financial situation and said from the beginning I don't want to get a dog if I can't afford to train it how I needed it. Nor did I want to waste his or my time. I really wish Joey would have said from day 1, "Sorry dear but what you're looking for isn't in your budget unless you have at least (whatever dollar amount) regardless of what trainer you go to." So at first, I felt duped into paying for an eval for a service wouldn't have been able to afford. But to be honest, the money I spent on the eval and all the time he talked with me beforehand was a fair trade. I did learn a couple things and would have signed up immediately if I could. Honestly, had the price quoted included personal protection training, I would have found a way to financially make it work. The main reason I was set on Joey was his personal protection class, which isn't something that many people offer. But that was another evaluation and fee TBD after the dog completes Total Control (which makes sense to complete the course first, I just didn't know the quote couldn't be given upfront after the first eval.) This being my first dog and now taking time to think of it, I was extremely naïve in my price expectations and should I realized the number he gave me couldn't have been the cost of a comprehensive 1:1 course, although I was expecting it to be maybe 2x that amount since I didn't have a super young pup. And considering Joey trains the owner, the price basically includes teaching you how to train every dog you'll ever own. I'd also then teach my husband and daughter as well as I learned. He's not creating repeat customers and considering what other places charge for them to train your dog (meaning you'll need to bring in every dog you own), it's a really great value overall. Like I said, I would have signed up but I simply can't afford it. Besides not giving me a straight answer about what a Total Control Package would cost on the phone, there's nothing I can truly fault Joey for. I ended up with a great dog that I wouldn't have gotten if I had known I couldn't enroll her with Joey. Everything in life happens for a reason so I have no regrets but I am worried about having a young pup that I don't have the skill or finances to train. I had no idea how much help she needed until the eval and now I can't unsee it. At this point, all I can do is my best not to ruin her and continue to save up. Joey will train older dogs but the more problems they have, the more it'll cost.

Called this place to get a ballpark understanding of the pricing because I'm thinking of getting 2 dogs, and the phone attendant gave me a smart answer about reading the website. He could not share the average amount of time it takes to train a dog nor any figures on pricing. He was very rude and if this is the attitude I'd have to deal with when it came to my dogs Ohio State K-9 would have to worry about more than a bad review. I say stay away from any place like this.

When we first got our 3 1/2 month old female Border collie mix named Louise, she was a 25lb hyper girl. Within a couple days we immediately felt overwhelmed with all the issues that she came to us with, biting and chewing everything, jumping constantly on all of our guests, separation anxiety, and escaping out of house and when she did, we were having to chase after her every time. After 2 weeks of dealing with all of these issues, we knew that we would need professional, help to fix our dog. After calling multiple trainers and seeking advice from friends about local trainers they have used, something just didn’t feel right. We were constantly hearing about the use of needing training devices and collars and only being able to get their basic 5 command training courses, so I then decided to do my own research. I finally came across Ohio State K-9 college and there website, which was fantastic and so informative! I gave Joey a call and instantly could tell that he knew what he was talking about. His over 44+ years of experience was easily picked up on and we talked for about an hour about his experience and what he could do to fix all these issues. I knew then that he was going to be the best trainer for our dog. At the first evaluation, Louise had scored all 0s meaning she was not able to follow any command by me on the first, second, or third try. Not only was she a 0, we took the leash off in his fenced yard and I was unable to get her to listen to me at all, I had to chase her around just to get her back on the leash. That’s when Joey stepped in and was able to demonstrate how to properly control her and he got her to sit on the first command, I truly couldn’t believe it and it was then I knew I was ready to start my first training class. After a couple weeks Joey helped me gain the respect I needed from my dog, and by only using my VOICE! I was finally able to give commands and she would follow them on the first try. Joey’s Total Control Course he has helped me train her to all senses and work through all distractions! With the total control course we were first able to achieve level one regular voice commands and move on to level 2 which was whisper voice commands. After working on those we moved on to level 3 hand commands and I am now able to successfully give all levels of commands up to 150 feet away, thanks to this course. Joey voice control METHOD of training is excellent, his 45 command total control COURSE really made him stand out from all other training schools I found! He has been there for me when her attitude and age was a lot for me to handle and used his 44+ years of experience, to custom tailor each of MY training sessions to fit my dog’s needs. I have even had him to board her a couple of times for me, and he will be the only one I ask from now on because he continues to work with her to keep her training consistent, and works on perfecting the foundation we built with her. Because of Joey’s knowledge, skills, and experience, my dog now performs every command on the first command. Joey also went over each of her bad behaviors and helped me fix every single one of them. The total control course was the real deal and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better dog training school and a better person to help ME learn, how to properly work with her. She has made a full turn and finally has become the dog of my dreams, thanks to Joey’s total control course and Joey’s love for his work, and…his dedications to his STUDENTS.

After 15+ years of breeding and training dogs with different methods I've worked with Pit Bulls,Rottweilers,Cane Corso's,Presa/Dogo Canarios and French Bulldogs I've finally found a trainer that trains obedience on 1st commands through voice control,whispers and hand controls. I recommend Joey to anyone that desire's the best training in the entire industry. Joey's 44 years of experience as a MASTER TRAINER that specializes in working breeds obviously speaks for itself ...

About 25 years ago, I started looking for the perfect dog for me and my family. After reading everything I could about dog breeds, I finally decided on the Siberian husky. I started calling breeders and setting appointments to look at their puppies and finally found the perfect puppy and purchased him. Several days later, my puppy was developing many behavioral issues: biting on everything in my home, including my hands and cloths. He also wouldn’t obey any of my commands, especially when off leash, which I must have. I simply thought that I would be able to train him on my own but, at this point I realized that my training skills were simply (no match for my puppy) and decided to seek professional help. After calling several dog training schools and discussing all the details about their schools. I wasn’t impressed with the basic obedience on leash training they offered (so I continued calling more schools) and learned that their training was the same, so I continued shopping. Soon afterwards, I found the Ohio State K-9 College and called them. Joey answered the phone and all my questions and asked me to read his website and then call him back with any questions, or to set up an appointment for the required 3 hour evaluation, I needed to achieve my goals with my dog. The 6 courses I needed were listed on his website under the STUDY GUIDE drop down menu, on the dog-stability webpage. I then called back and set the appointment. At the end of the evaluation, I immediately enrolled and began my 1st training class with Joey. I worked with my dog at home daily as Joey requested and returned every 7th day for another class until the completion of my training with my dog, which all required about 12 classes or so. I was so impressed with all the training courses that I had purchased. Joey’s Total Control Obedience Training course had turned my dog into the dog of my dreams. I was so pleased with the end results of my training that I decided to purchase a fully trained male Pitbull from Joey named Striker. I have seen so many dogs in my lifetime; however, I had never seen a dog that was better trained than Striker. Joey had Striker trained to his Total Control Course, just like my Husky, and BOTH dogs would obey his 45 commands as promised on completion of training: WHISPER and HAND commands, even at hundreds of feet away from me and on the very 1st command. BOTH of my dogs would actually POTTY on command (seconds after I command them), including fixing all my dogs behavior issues. I was especially pleased that BOTH of my dogs would actually load up and unload out of my vehicle on command. I have watched trainers all over the world on TV, but, have yet to find a trainer that possesses Joey’s skills and ability. Dogs RESPECT Joey more ways than I can describe. When the leash is in his hands, he has the complete focus from EVERY dog he works with. The dog immediately realizes that playtime is over and it is time to work. Both of my dogs were trained this way, and I am sure EVERY dog Joey works with will be trained in the same way. I just purchased a male German shepherd and Joey is the 1st and only person I trust with my dog’s training, so I immediately called him to set my appointment for the evaluation. A few days ago, I learned an in-law sent their dog to a 2 week boot camp boarding school for training and they tried to tell me that’s what I should do with my puppy. It only cost them $3600.00, and the dog is no better trained than before their training. I told them that I certainly wouldn’t be doing that with my dog, since I know the best trainer in the entire country is The Ohio State K-9 College. I believe that ANYONE who calls around and asks the right questions will understand that NO OTHER SCHOOL compares to Joey. He certainly is a 1st class EXPERT dog trainer, and is in fact, the only MASTER TRAINER with over 44 years of experience, in the entire state that they will be able to find. Ricky Blakey 11/6/2022
