Ohio State K-9 College

This is my final follow up about Elle Mae. Sadly she passed away in February of this year at the age of 11.5 years old. She was my best friend and was the most loyal dog that I’ve ever known. Now some of the credit is hers but a good part of it is due to the training that we both received from Joey Byas. This man knows dogs and knows how to get them to respond to their owners. If Joey had not been there for the both of us I don’t think I would have had the best years of my life with my friend Elle. She will be sorely missed, but rest assured when I get a new puppy in the future I will be taking them to Joey Byas of the Ohio State K9 College for training. My recommendation is for everyone one else to do the same. The only reason I would tell any one not to is because I don’t want him so busy that I can’t get in for classes. Mark Seidl 2/19/2009 I’m back again. This is my follow up testimonial that will bring everyone up to date with Elle Mae’s progress. Since Joey graduated Elle and I from training things have been going well. I have regularly been taking Elle Mae to my parent’s farm and walking her without any worry or concern for her running off. I have had TOTAL CONTROL at all times and the distractions of the farm have only helped to reinforce her training. I was able to take her turkey hunting with me this spring and was confident that she would not interfere with my success at all. As a matter of fact this was the best season ever. Elle Mae only wears a collar and leash when it is required by the law; otherwise she has the ability to do whatever she wants The thing that she really wants is to make me happy and to have praise from me. Joey and I always used praise as our reward for doing the correct thing. I have never had to bribe her with treats to get her to follow her commands. I have friends that have to fatten their dogs with food to get them to follow the simplest commands. Elle Mae is a Labrador retriever and has a high drive for independence in the field. However she follows all of my commands without question or challenge. Joey also worked with me to train Elle Mae to respond to a dog whistle, which is one of his custom training courses. I don’t have to walk around the park hollering at the top of my lungs (like most people) to get her to come. Now, I just blow the whistle once and she comes running to me as fast as she can. I am so impressed with the way Joey has trained me and all of the dogs that I have had, that I could never recommend training anywhere else. Elle Mae is the best trained dog that I’ve ever owned. I think the results are because I’ve been trained 3 times over the last 17 years, and because we started her at an earlier age than my other dogs. If fact she was trained in record time. It only took 7 weeks to train her, due to the fact that we started her training at the correct age of 6 weeks old, and that Joey is a MASTER TRAINER. Sincerely, Mark Seidl

When I started taking my Doberman to Joey, she was not trained on any basic obedience and pulled very badly on the leash when I would walk her. She got a 0% on her evaluation day with him. Now, after a few months of classes, she knows all basic commands (sit, stay, come, heel, down) and has fun learning it! She walks perfectly on a leash now, and I feel confident enough to walk her off leash as well. I look forward to continue working with him on more and more training! -Julia Hohman

Training with no shock, corrective collar, nor treats, yet the most effective and lasting training I've seen. I get compliments for how well trained my dog is. It's an even better feeling telling others my dog only learned with voice command training, almost as if to say we didn't take shortcuts training her. When I first got my 8 week old corgi, I was worried about dog training that would last, be effective, and not kill my dogs personality with shock collars making the dog anxious, treat training making her only listen when there's food, and spike/corrective collars to fear not respect. After 17 weeks I have been able to get my dog to sit, stay, come, heel, down, go up and down flights of stairs, get in and out my car, potty on command, drop whatever she's chewing on (there is more training to come). This is down either to a whisper or hand command. Through 1 hour classes that's tailored just one on one per week. She loves training and I was able to teach my gf how to train my dog to a whisper as well. The puppy listens and it is through the help of her specific training that she can be this responsive. She is still extremely playful during training and after. I know here I've made the right investment with a great trainer that cares for quality results. TL;DR Take your dog here especially if they are a puppy for serious long term results that will help train commands and good behaviors. This works as a great mental stimulate for developing. I couldn't be happier with the outcomes even within the first class. The credit goes to the only trainer, who has over 42 years of dog training, that makes these class enjoyable and worthwhile.

I received a recommendation for Ohio State K-9 College from my stepdad, since his mom got all her dogs trained there. Since I knew I wanted a working dog, my research led me to choose a male Doberman, the only dog bred specifically for personal protection. After researching training schools across the US for over 18 months, I was dismayed at how many schools used inhumane and/or ineffective methods for even their BASIC obedience training course. I even decided to discuss what I desired from a training school with a coworker one day. He informed me that he had already sent his dog to a boarding school for their 6 week basic obedience training program for his male husky. Here is the list of courses I have enrolled for and graduated from Ohio State K-9 College: TOTAL CONTROL OBEDIENCE, Personal Protection, Attack Dog, Watch Dog, Guard Dog, and their Tracking courses. I was so pleased with the FIRST COMMAND performance that I achieved with my dog both on and off leash, (even at hundreds of feet away from me) that I enrolled in their Poison Control course to protect my dog's life. Joey's training is top notch. He has the only school that I know of that teaches each dog and their owner ONE-ON-ONE for all classes from enrollment to graduation. Joey's training is not for the faint of heart, it's for students who want to learn the best way to care for their dog, including methods to equipment, food, and health. Joey will only schedule evaluation appointments for students over-the-phone that are willing to accept his mindset and knowledge. During your in-person-evaluation of you and your dog's working ability, Joey will also be able to determine how well you both work together as a team. At the end of each class, Joey will test your skills (taught during the previous class) if your dog fails in any aspect, Joey will reevaluate and send you home with the knowledge to fix it. With a rescue dog at 12+ months old, the training we have learned and are able to implement immediately has made this questionable dog a great member of our family. We went from frustrated walks to the end of the street to problem-free strolls for 45+ minutes. I highly recommend Ohio State K9 and the experience of the lead trainer Joe. Understand this, he does not train the dog, he trains the owner who will be with the dog every day.
