Nathan Woods Dog Trainer

My black lab and I recently completed the 8-week training program with Nathan. I opted to spread the sessions over a few months in order to fully absorb and practice each step. To me, my dog felt stubborn and difficult. Nathan explained that she just has "drive" - a good kind of dog to have. After each session, I felt more confident, and her behavior improved drastically. For every problem, Nathan offered a reason and a solution. Nathan is professional, unflappable, and very competent. My dog and I are both a lot happier.

I highly recommend Nathan Woods as an excellent dog trainer! Nathan Woods taught US to train our dog. As a result, our dog is a pleasure to be around. His 8-session training package is organized and thorough. Nathan is available to answer questions as they arise in person at your sessions and by phone. After following his methods, we have a calm and tuned-in dog. At each session, Nathan works by meeting with you for 35 minutes to an hour and teaching you the new skill to work on with your dog. You leave the session with a new spreadsheet of skills to practice methodically over the next week or weeks. Then, once those skill are mastered, you meet up with Nathan for a new set of skills. His methods are not treat-based. He teaches everything on a 6-foot leash, eventually graduating our dog to an e-collar to be used in off-leash areas. If you are willing to put in the effort at home, his methods work. Go for it!

My girlfriend and I adopted a 100lb mastiff rescue from a local shelter who needed a lot of work. We immediately found and contacted Nathan Woods and it was the best decision we ever made. We saw results after the first session and now our dog Nacho sits, stays, is able to be off leash, etc. Everything you want in a dog. Nathan is professional, knowledgeable, and is truly great at what he does. I highly recommend!

I contacted Nathan for general obedience help with my 7 month old blue heeler, and I was particularly interested in developing a reliable recall and ultimately going off-leash. In a nutshell, for the 8 session course I did, the program is mostly work on-leash. You meet Nathan with your dog at a park, and he takes an hour to demonstrate and practice 3-6 tasks you do over a 6 day period on your own (with Fido, of course). The program culminates with a trained dog at Hendry’s (offleash beach). One thing to mention is that the program highly recommends the use of corrective collars (Ie. prong/choke/e-collar). No treats. That might be worth knowing for some people. Overall, I was very pleased by both the experience as well as the results. My relationship with my dog improved substantially.
