Does modern dog training have board and train program?
Hi Mike- We do not provide nor recommend board and train services. The board and train setup is extremely ineffective overall; the dog will of course respond to the trainer but it is highly unlikely any success will carry over to everyday life at home or for the guardian. The most effective training option is always private in-home lessons. In this setup, we work together to teach the guardian how to effectively manage and communicate with their dog. We caution against any type of board and train for safety reasons. There are many facilities and trainers that can endanger and/or otherwise cause harm to your dog both physically and mentally when you are not present.

My wife and I signed up for modern dogs “puppy pre-school” class to help socialize an EXTREMELY timid miniature dachshund puppy, who was too nervous to even leave the house when we started. By the end of class she was very comfortable exploring and making her way in the world. A month later, we went back for private lessons with Kristen, who worked with us on some early signs of reactivity to humans and dogs. By the end of five weeks our dog was able to reliably disengage from things that had caused her to freeze and or react, and her general confidence skyrocketed. Kristen was a tremendous thought partner through it all, and did everything in her power to create a space that met the needs of our dog, including sometimes asking strangers in the parking lot to stop making so much noise so our puppy wouldn’t come into class all worked up. ESPECIALLY for dogs struggling with reactivity, anxiety or fear, Modern Dog is the place to go. Your dog will leave confident, empowered, and generally much more equipped to handle things that cause them stress. More than that, you and your dog will leave with a significantly stronger bond. We will absolutely be continuing to work with them as our puppy grows up.
Kristen is so incredibly knowledgeable not just on dog training, but on behavior and more! I’ve learned so much in such a short time frame and look forward to learning more!
Modern Dog is awesome! They use force free training that's really working well for us, and weekly supervised puppy play on Saturdays.

Working with Kristen was amazing. I did not want to work with a trainer that trained through fear or punishment, but one that rewarded good behaviors and focused on mitigation efforts. Kristen came in and created an environment where we spoke through our concerns and she trained us on how to work best with our dogs while being a catalyst of better behavior with them. We also spoke how to mitigate our concerns by creating a better environment within our home for our dogs to to help them adjust their behavior. Our dogs didn’t seem different personality wise afterwards, they were just better behaved. Great experience overall.
