Island Dog Obedience

Kristi with Island dog obedience training was wonderful with our 5 month chocolate lab Moose. We had no idea what we had gotten ourselves into with a lab pup. He quickly chewed up furniture slippers remote controls and barked if we left him in his kennel. He was goofy and sweet but crazy with energy. Kristi taught him and then us how to make him obey and be the kind of pup we hoped for!! She sent us daily videos and lots of photos!! So amazing ! He is a new pup!! Thank you!

I am so happy we put our dog through the 2 week board and train with Island Dog Obedience! We have a French bulldog, and we had the worst time getting him to listen to commands, walking and greeting other dogs. We did it all - YouTube videos, PetSmart training. Our dog is so stubborn, nothing worked! We met one of the trainers, Kristi, and knew she would be a great match for us. She loves French bulldogs and knows that they are the most stubborn dogs. She was amazing with him! She was so patient with him and gave him a lot of individual attention. She gave us an update everyday and videos of his progress. We just couldn't believe he was following commands in such a short amount of time. After the training, It's a night and day difference! He listens to commands, is calmer around other people and dogs. Never did we think this was possible! We can now walk with him off lease, have pillows on the couch, and bring him along on our adventures! Thank you soooo much Kristi and Island Dog Obedience!!!

It was necessary for me to have my four-year-old Golden Retriever trained when I relocated from Kona to Oahu. She was a runner and put herself and us in very dangerous situations as she would bolt out of the gate and head for the highway. I had Kristi take her for a two week board/train session and my Goldie now listens and obeys as if she has done it all her life. Kristi is a magnificent trainer. I appreciate her expertise in bringing my girl to a well-behaved, well-mannered (no jumping on friends or new acquaintances) and safety conscious dog. I am so grateful to Kristi for saving Goldie.

Through virtual lessons Island Dog Obedience saved me from having to re-home my dog Kane! Maria is patient, understanding and clear in her guidance. I can now take Kane off leash in nearly any setting including the beach, farmland, and forests. He is easily walkable on leash and only approaches other dogs and humans on command. He plays with all types of dogs from a 10 pound 12-year-old Maltese to a 65 pound 4-year-old Catahoula Leopard mix. He even started cuddling with my neighbor's cats. The contrast from when I started working with Maria is remarkable. Prior to Maria, two trainers gave up on me and Kane, including one that told me Kane is not a beach dog or an off-leash dog, but rather an outside dog only. When I adopted him he had no recall, would not heel, and was reactive to bikes, motorcycles, cars, other dogs and skateboards - jumping up and repeatedly barking while twisting around in his harness. When he saw other dogs he would crouch down and slowly approach them, understandably making dog owners and parents nervous.He wasn’t allowed to board with other dogs or be left at daycare because his play style was too rough. He was so difficult to walk that I was developing persistent shoulder pain. At one point it was possible that I'd have to find a new apartment or get rid of him. I’ve referred not only a handful of friends to Maria but multiple strangers as I’m regularly stopped and asked how it’s possible that he is so well trained. Thai is no exaggeration. I meet countless people who also don’t know what to do with their dogs as they love them but can’t control them. Maria thoughtfully guided me through introducing the e-collar to Kane. He gets excited and runs to the door when he sees it. It’s truly remarkable and I’m so grateful to Maria. I now have the best friend I was hoping for and I’m able to run him around with friends’ dogs, and let him run free.
