In November, 2019 we were contacted about from a Veterinary Behaviorist about this dog that had multiple level five bites two members of his family. As a result the dog was removed from the home and was in a boarding facility. The professional suggestion for this dog was to be euthanized. Rehoming was not an option. We decided to take the dog on with full understanding that we were going to do what we could do and our ultimate goal was that Maverick would not have to be euthanized. He was on medications for his behavior. Keisha Owner of CSD went to the boarding facility to pick him up and had to go by him food on the way home. The food he had been eating caused more bowl movements than was normal. He also struggled with Coprophagia. His first two weeks were a real struggle with potty training, he refused to go outside. He would wait every time until We were back inside then would go. Requiring us to replace many rugs. Maverick was with us for a month and we couldn’t have any other dogs with him because he was extremely high management. To address the Coprophagia we picked up his waste everytime. However, the family didn’t want to have to do that, Instead would cover it up with a flower pot. I was not surprised to hear after he had been home for about a week that he was once again eating his waste. When we updated the family about the potty training issues we were having we were told that they would not be going outside with him all the time and did not want to have to pick up after him every time. Mavericks diagnosis from the veterinary behaviorist was Conflict aggression: Body handling aggression, Resource guarding, disturbed while sleeping. Separation related disorder. Fearful behavior: bodily handling by unfamiliar people. Possible hyperkinesis: hyperkinesis is the inability to rest at night. This was the primary reason that we ever decided to allow Maverick to sleep in the bed with us. Mavericks diagnosis showed that he actually could not get his rest at night. The only time this dog was actually able to go to sleep and get rest at night was when he was on the bed sleeping. However his behavior at home was guarding the bed if the wife ever got up to go to the restroom she could not get back in the bed. So maverick and Mike was isolated to sleeping in the living room on the couch. Maverick was in his ex pen. The primary goal was to get him to sleep through the night then allow him to be able to sleep on his bed beside the bed. To which the last half of a week he was here that is where he slept. I will definitely admit we did allow him to sleep in the bed and this is due to his diagnosis. I cannot apologize for that, we did what was necessary for Maverick. The end of December maverick was scheduled to be with us through Christmas weekend and go home right after the first of the year. However they decided to cut his training time and wanted us to bring him home on Christmas Eve. We let him know that we had family here and that we were actually doing dinner here too which we were already preparing everything. He was insistent on his dog coming back on Christmas Eve so yes our employee took Maverick home on Christmas Eve. She was at their house approximately 2 1/2 hours explaining everything and showing them what they needed to do. This was not part of his program it was triggered by them wanting to cancel out the remaining days. I also did another follow up session at their home with myself and Yvette coming with me. The follow up sessions were accounted for and his program where he had paid and canceled. Unfortunately when a board and train program is canceled we cannot fill the spot and is the same with any other boarding facility. I agree Maverick Suffered. But it wasn’t on us that he did. This is the second time this gentleman tried to do a review to try and get us to respond. We will take legal matters going forward but we will answer any questions that may be warranted about this client. Prayers for Maverick
