Canine Perspective Dog Training: Lincoln Park Office

I adopted a 2 year old Rottweiler mix that was completely untrained (When I mean untrained… he literally didn’t understand “sit” AND when he finally learned his name, he refused to acknowledge it) and had heard about Canine Perspective from a few colleagues. I signed up for 6 one-on-one sessions after a month of unsuccessful DIY training. For context: my dog tore an ACL, pulled me to the ground, and almost dislocated my shoulder within the first month, all on a harness with double leash contact which is allegedly supposed to reduce pulling. While not everyone may not favor e-collar training—I have seen first-hand how beneficial this training was for my dog. Jesse and the Canine Perspective team not only taught my dog to be obedient on and off leash, but taught me as a first time dog owner to have the tools to further his training outside Canine Perspective. My dog is happier, more mentally stimulated and his anxiety has been reduced all from the freedom of being able to walk off-leash and safely and selectively play with other dogs at parks. Jesse and his team offer a wealth of knowledge on any dog-related topic, and the entire staff is extremely in tune with each dogs’ needs. Training with Jesse not only molded my dog’s behavior, but molded mine as a dog owner- ensuring that even in a threatening or unpredictable situation, my dog and I can successfully navigate anything together. Think of training with Canine Perspective like sending your dog to college- except you’re there right alongside them. You’ll learn to sense dog behaviors and signals, how to better feed your dog on a species-appropriate diet, and how to train your dog to live a full and happy life.

We started going to Jesse in the winter of 2021, and have observed a 180 degree change in our dog. Our dog is a poodle mix with a lot of energy and can be very stubborn and vocal. Jesse has provided the tools for us to establish structure for our dog. Not only has our relationship with our dog improved drastically, it is also now more enjoyable to be able to bring the dog places, take it on off leash hikes, walk without being pulled all over the place, etc. Please consider Jesse and his team. They are very professional.

We use Canine Perspective boarding services for our pup, an 9 year-old husky. He does need to be muzzled during his stay and honestly, at first, I was a bit hesitant about that BUT during his stay the Canine Perspective staff sent me pictures of him on walks and on the treadmill and our pup did not seem to mind the muzzle! We bought the muzzle that Jesse recommended which allows him to breath/eat/drink without any problems. When we picked our pup up, he was happy to see us but he was calm! I really appreciate the structured boarding that they have because I noticed a huge difference. When I used to pick up my dog from his other daycare/boarding, he always seemed stressed and over-stimulated and slept all the next day.

Five stars is not a high enough rating for Jesse and his training services at Canine Perspectives. We have a 140 pound great dane who was a little difficult to control and was exhibiting some guarding behavior. The moment that we met Jesse for our consultation, we were immediately at ease. His experience and expertise were very readily apparent at the consultation, and we signed up for training right away. We noticed an incredible difference after just one session, and it only continued to build from there. Jesse's tailors his programming to the dog's specific needs, and does not operate a "cookie cutter" model., Given our dog's guarding behaviors, we had an entire session that was solely dedicated to those issues. We have a few sessions remaining, but so far the change has been night and day. I cannot recommend Jesse and his training services highly enough!

Jesse is simply an amazing trainer. We tried other training but we still had a highly reactive dog, to the point that I would get anxiety when going for walks or taking him out because he was so reactive and not knowing how he would behave. After just one session, our dog showed amazing improvement. Friends and family remarked about how clear the change was, as we now had a dog that would stay by our sides at all times and would not react even when other dogs barked at him. He taught us many skills that have improved our dog's behavior, lowered his anxiety, and allow us to take our dog to more places. Even after our training sessions have concluded, we can email him with questions and he or his staff will direct us to resources so we can do it ourselves. I recommend him to any friends/family who have any training issues. I really appreciated that he does not try and price gouge or have a "one size fits all" approach as he recommended less training sessions to a friend of mine because her dog did not have the same number/level of issues my dog had. I thought that showed real integrity and showed he is not just going to charge people for the sake of charging people. You won't regret choosing Canine Perspective for training
