White Mountain College for Pets and Boarding Lodge

Updated based on business owner's response. This is specific to house training services. Everything else we've experienced has been adequate. We brought home a 10 month old rescue shih tzu from The Grateful Dog in Maine (buyer/adopter beware). We were told by them that the dog was crate trained, which couldn't have been further from the truth. After working with the dog for a couple of months, with no real progress, we decided it was time for professional help. We contacted White Mountain College for Pets for assistance. After paying for several full-day training sessions with them, we saw no improvement which left us with three options: return the dog to Grateful Dog, pay for a $5000+, 5 week, boarding program with College for Pets, or go with the less expensive option of enrolling the dog in a day program with College for Pets for $1950. We chose to enroll the dog in the day program. After the day program completed, we enrolled her in four weekly day care sessions at $304/wk. We are still struggling with a dog that is clueless about signaling when it needs to go outdoors to have a bowel movement. The one saving grace is that it's a small animal with small poops and luckily it poops on the tile floor next to one of the doors leading out of the house where one of two sets of alert bells is hanging. It has no idea that it needs to ring the bells to indicate that it needs to relieve itself. I don't know what College for Pets was doing with her for all those weeks, and the thousands of dollars in fees they collected, but I do know that we are no closer to having a house trained dog in the home. It will take intensive home training to try and correct her behavior which leads me to believe that we could have saved ourselves a great deal of money if we simply understood this from the beginning.
