Rebecca provided insights and action plans to get the dogs used to each other and how to also train the puppy without having the older dog feel jealous/left out/ or disrupt his routine. If you’re looking for a dog trainer that listens and hears you, relates well to both your dog and you, and takes her job seriously as a professional, REBECCA is the trainer for you. Just as we need to be predictable for our pets, Rebecca is predictable in her training techniques. She tells how/what to do, models the techniques with the dog and then coaches you as you learn the technique, all with gentleness and sense of humor. She also provides anticipatory guidance on what to expect next from your puppy and what not to do. Rebecca was referred to me by a trusted friend when we adopted a 4-month-old puppy (previously had dogs but never a puppy) and had a lot to learn. Rebecca opened up a whole new world for our rescue pup Lucy. A week after we adopted this pup, who we were told was "good with other dogs" (a requirement for us), we discovered that Lucy was highly reactive whenever she came within blocks of other dogs. She would lose her mind: shrieking, barking, thrashing. It sounded like a full on dog fight coming out of our 20 lb pup. We worked with a trainer we found on Yelp first, who was great with Lucy, but gave us terrible advice about exposing her to other dogs while distracting her with chicken and chews (which she was too excited to be swayed by) or taking her to a dog park. We then enrolled Lucy in Ahimsa's Growly Dog class, but Lucy's behavior didn't improve and I felt we need something a bit more than the purely positive reinforcement/distraction techniques Ahimsa uses. We asked the trainer at Ahimsa if he thought Lucy would ever be able to be around other dogs (we have many friends with dogs and so need this to happen) and he said she.... might... be able to ... tolerate... some dogs, but he didn't sound hopeful. Then we found Rebecca. She helped us teach Lucy how to reign in her anxiety so that dog introductions were possible, met with us at parks where Lucy could be around dogs from a distance, and coached us through the process. Rebecca then helped Lucy "take the plunge" by helping us introduce her to my brother's dog and, after that was successful, several other dogs. From there, Lucy's entire world expanded. We discovered that, while Lucy might be fearful of other dogs initially, she just needed time (for her, about 5 minutes) and coaching in her introductions. After that, Lucy was FINE: eager to connect, in tune with dogs' body language, and full of joy at being able to play. Rebecca was so great in helping us read the dogs' body language so that we could know when to rein things in and when to let them be. And she's been amazing in so many other ways, including basic obedience training. I can't recommend her highly enough.
