Train Pro Dogs

The great thing about this program is that it works for dogs that are completely untrained as well as those who need a refresher or "failed" previous training. They focus on training the human to read the dog and offer specific tactics to work on troubling behaviors. I also like that they offer individual and group classes, as well as a board-and-train program. The trainers are friendly and professional. Schedule a class and give it a try. My nephew Don is one of the owners of Train Pro Dogs. While visiting Tampa last week I had my first opportunity to visit their facility and watch Don work with a dog utilizing their slip lead. I was honestly amazed at how well the dog responded to the gentle pressure that the lead applies. I have a fairly well trained 14 month old Lab at home who occasionally over powers my wife if he decides to “visit” with another dog during his walk. Don explained the proper use of the lead and how important it was for the dogs “person” to remain calm and not use the pressure from the slip lead as a punishment. The intent is to teach the dog that HE has control over releasing the pressure from the lead. I returned home with one of the slip leads, and I’m not exaggerating when I say that within 60 seconds my dog Jackson was responding by sitting any time he felt the pressure. The chain cinch collar that we had been using would often cause Jackson to choke and gag and would not deter him from these unwanted visits. I have thrown our choker away and will continue to work with Don (via zoom) to make sure I give my dog the proper training he deserves.. Thanks Don!
