The Naked Dog

Austinites looking for a dog trainer or dog care, I can’t recommend The Naked Dog enough. Their approach to training is the smartest and most respectful I’ve ever seen. They don’t rely on treats to teach obedience and a lot of what they train is for the safety and well being of the dogs. They’ve helped me to take better care of my dog and change some behaviors that I didn’t even realize could impose harm to her. Definitely reach out to them if you’re considering hiring a trainer or if you have a dog that needs more socialization and exercise.

I called Allegra the day after adopting a sweet, but very nervous and not-yet-trained 1 y.o. cattle dog/lab mix, Cora, who would absolutely NOT go to the bathroom outside, no matter how long we spent out there. In a private consultation, Allegra was immediately successful in getting Cora to go potty outside, and helped so much in making me feel more confident in setting boundaries and stepping up as a new dog mom. We had a couple more follow-up sessions that Allegra catered directly to my and Cora's needs--including a breakfast taco party, so we could practice welcoming visitors appropriately! Soon thereafter, Cora joined the hiking pack with Haley, whom she adores. She gets great exercise, socialization, and even some extra training while I'm at work. I've seen a remarkable amount of progress with her, just in the past 6 months! She's now a pro off-leash and has really curbed her boundary-pushing tendencies at home. Allegra and Haley are both super responsive to my questions, and I love seeing pictures of my girl out with the pack. We even ran into some of her doggie friends out with Haley on a weekend, and she was so psyched to see them! Basically, all of this longwinded testimony is to say, I highly recommend The Naked Dog!

As much as I'd love to spend my days running around with my pups, girl's gotta work. Allegra is a lifesaver, scooping them up during the workday for off leash hiking with a pack. They come back happy, spent, and polished on their training to boot. My younger dog, a rescue, was very fearful and unpredictable when we first adopted him. Hiking with The Naked Dog had a profound impact on him, helping him tune in to much a chiller pack-member posture.

You really CAN teach an old dog new tricks and Allegra is the best there could possibly be to do so. Not only did she help us to train our 8yr old Aussie, she gave us a clear understanding of why we were doing so. She helped calmed our overly anxious Aussie who struggled with the need to guard our home and us. She walked us through step by step instructions of what to do and gave us a great inside to our dogs mind. We’re so grateful to now understand our dog and his needs. He improved so much over the course of his training and is still making progress thanks to Allegra’s shared knowledge. We’re so glad we chose The Naked Dog and hope you do too!
