The Balanced Dog

Our dog Roux had a foundation with training previously, however, we slacked off for over a year and she lost a lot of those skills. We did not have the time or capacity to get her back up to speed in her training, so we signed her up for Joanne's 3-week board and train. The main things we wanted to focus on was e-collar training (for off leash purposes), resource guarding around other dogs, and sharpening the basics. While it was hard to be away from Roux for 3 weeks, Joanne provided us with thorough instructional videos of the training sessions, fun pictures, and routine check-ins. All of these things helped with the reintroduction of Roux back into our daily lives. With the help of Joanne’s intentional “human training” in coordination with the Roux’s training, we feel more than equipped to keep Roux’s skills up to par. We could not recommend Joanne enough and are thrilled to be a part of her community moving forward with the ongoing weekend training sessions.

While doing a lot of research for the area I came across The Balanced Dog buried under posts on Nextdoor. Since starting to work with Joanne I can tell my dog is a lot more confident and less anxious. After being attack by off leash dogs 3 times I thought he would never be able to be fully comfortable around strange dogs again. Now he can go into shops, walk past other dogs on the same sidewalk, and can self regulate. It isn't just training for your dog but for the owner as well. She puts together a plan tailored to you dog and your life style and explains all the exercises from the pov of your dog and how it benefits them psychologically. I thought I was just going to get my dog to behave, but it is so much more fulfilling to know and see how much more comfortable and confident he is in his own skin.

Joanne is amazing. I have a year and a half old Bernedoodle that is very sweet but also very stubborn. Joanne coached me through how/ why to use a prong collar and an e-collar so that it wasn't harmful to my dog and really helped her with obedience. During Penny's Board and train there where regular progress updates and lots of coaching via video for later review. Also after Penny's stay there have been lots of follow-ups. An amazing experience all around.

I worked with Joanne for my 2 year old Husky and she was fantastic. After a board and train my dog was noticeably better behaved, and I received constant communication and instruction about her training, giving me the tools to continue practice at home. I also attended group classes which were great as well, and offered the chance to speak to her about any issues that popped up in the meantime. She’s very responsive to questions, and every dog I see in her classes, including mine love her. I would absolutely recommend working with her to train your pup!
