While you dog is still young is a great time to begin to address these problems! We have a rescue dog, also a GSD mix, that we got when he was about two years old. Having the help of a professional trainer made it possible for us to keep and retrain him. It was hard but worth it!

Hi Martha: I’m sorry but I don’t know of any organizations that take owner turn in dogs for training. You could try the local rescues to see if they can help you re-home them.

First off, I loved this dog school..A+ A+ A+😃. U will not be disappointed. I enrolled my dog Lucy because I could already tell she was pretty smart & was a fast learner on the basic little things I was teaching her @ home. There weren't any behavior issues 4 us 2 have 2 overcome, so that was a good foundation 2 build on. When Lucy & I signed up, we went through the Kindergarten Class (sort of like pre-school 4 dogs). Then after we graduated we signed up 4 the Elementary Class...sort of like being a 1st or 2nd grader. The K class was about 5 weeks @ reasonably priced, the E class ran 4 weeks & involved field trips 4 teaching socialization. Class size was 3 -4 dogs w/owners and 1 teacher 4 the group. We had Miss Callie & she was knowledgeable, attentive, completely open to questions & explanations. We had homework printouts for practice & to be ready 4 class (one day per week). If it pup is only 8-10 weeks old, I'm pretty sure the have some kind of new beginners lessons....

Hi Becca: We do all the obedience training necessary for SDs and can administer the public access test, but not the task specific behaviors. Emotional Support dogs do not require any specific training--they're basically pet dogs that allow you to live/lodge in places that do not allow dogs if you have a "need" letter from your provider. https://www.ada.gov/regs2010/service_animal_qa.html

By taking one of mine in, he really learned a lot. I felt it was totally worth it and have recommended to others. It was fun to watch the other dogs learn too.

There were 3 other dogs in the class that my service dog in training Buck was in. They all were very high energy and jumped up on people. By the end of the elementary class they were all like completely different dogs and would only get better if they continue on with the intermediate class.

Hi Alexis: There are lots of techniques for high energy dogs to gain focus, and getting those extra tools may be what you need. If your dog has no trouble (aggression, fear) of strange people and strange dogs then a group class would be a good place to start.

The trainers at Such a Good Dog are really good and feel most dogs can be trained. They will definitely answer your questions in person or with a phone call. But my Anatolian shepherd did great with the first class and we will probably be going back for the subsequent training.

I'm so sorry for the late reply! Our Kindergarten classes start at 8 weeks old after at least 1 round of vaccinations.
