Trust-based dog training focuses on building a strong relationship between you and your dog through clear communication, leadership, and mutual respect. Instead of relying solely on obedience, we prioritize understanding your dog’s needs and motivations. This approach leads to long-term behavioral change, making your dog more confident, responsive, and eager to follow your lead.

Yes! Our dog training programs incorporate positive reinforcement techniques alongside gentle course corrections when necessary. How do you stop dogs from pulling on the leash, especially during hikes or walks?
At Strong Bond Dog Training, we take a trust-based approach to leash training. Instead of forcing your dog to walk in a rigid position, we teach them that leash walking is a partnership. We help your dog understand that being on a leash still allows them to meet their needs—whether it's sniffing, exploring, or moving at a comfortable pace. We also guide you in choosing the right leash length and walk style to create a stress-free experience.

Yes! The best thing you can do is start puppy training early. Your puppy is always learning—so the sooner you teach them boundaries, communication, and leadership, the easier it will be as they grow. Our puppy training programs focus on socialization, leash training, basic requests, and trust-building, ensuring your pup grows into a well-balanced adult dog.

A psychiatric service dog is trained to assist individuals with mental health conditions through specific tasks and behavioral support. Our service dog training program is designed for both the dog and the handler, ensuring they work as a team. At the end of our training, we offer a psychiatric service dog certification to qualifying teams.

What is the difference between obedience training and trust-based training?
Obedience training focuses on making the dog comply with commands, often without addressing the root cause of behavioral issues. Trust-based dog training, on the other hand, looks at why a dog is acting a certain way and teaches them through communication, leadership, and relationship-building. This leads to lasting behavioral change instead of just quick fixes.

Alex approaches dog training from a distinctive angle, prioritizing the establishment of a deep connection with your dog and addressing their needs. A content and secure dog typically exhibits good behavior without much intervention. This approach facilitates the identification of underlying reasons for your dog's misbehavior. By attentively understanding your dog's cues and devising strategies to support them through difficulties, you foster a relationship grounded in collaboration rather than dominance.

I have learned so much working with Alex. I never considered that getting dog training was really about people training. It is training ME to look deeply into myself in order to work effectively with my doggie and in so doing, SO much has become illuminated inside of me that has translated into a growthful experience with my dog and our bond. The explorations have been humbling and very valuable. I now see my dog and me as a team of equal parts working together. Alex is gentle yet direct. He is smart and thoughtful and his approach is really effective. I also see Alex invested in growing his approach and learning more and more to do so.

My wife and I thought we were experienced dog owners having had 4 dogs in the past with dog training along the way. Daisy (our current dog) was our first rescue dog, arriving at 10 months with an uncertain background and some behavioral issues we wanted to address - counter surfing, etc.
Alex was highly recommended to us by Daisy's foster mom, and we are so grateful for that!
Why do we say that?
* Alex meets both the dog and the owner where they are. Without judgement, he listens, observes and provides insightful guidance based on his incredible depth of knowledge and personal experience.
* We found Alex extremely professional and trustworthy; he genuinely cared about our relationship with Daisy.
* We resolved Daisy's behavioral issues quickly, so Alex adjusted direction to focus on skills from our current frame of reference. Also, when we hadn't fully engaged in homework between sessions, instead of facing judgement, Alex met us where we were and continued building in a positive direction.
The bottom line: As a result of working with Alex, we have a much better understanding of our dog Daisy; her wants/interests and needs, and how our interactions impact her. As a result, she's become a wonderful family (pack) member. Alex is an intelligent, interesting human being and we are grateful for his friendship and guidance. We miss him since "graduating"!

Even being an experienced dog owner and foster dog parent, after bringing home our new puppy I was looking for a trainer who could help keep me accountable and on track with training given our busy lives. After searching, interviewing, and even trialing multiple trainers it seemed like I was stuck with two choices - very negative reinforcement techniques including the use of e-collars that essentially asked me to dominate my puppy at all times without a thought to their own emotional development or positive reinforcement options that while felt better seemed both incredibly slow and also required a mountain of treats to be effective.
I was about to give up until I found Alex and within one conversation I could tell that his approach was not only going to feel better to me but be effective while helping me build a literal strong bond with my growing puppy. That's not to say the process didn't involve commitment, introspection, and work on my part but the results have been so worth it. When out and about people are constantly surprised to find out that my dog is still a growing puppy and I hear so many "but he's so well behaved!"s and "how did you get him to be so calm?" While Alex and I didn't specifically focus or train towards the testing, in the time we were working together my dog breezed through his Canine Good Citizen testing and we plan to have him continue with Alex into therapy dog training.
I truly can't recommend Alex enough if you're looking to build a thoughtful, kind, communicative, and effective relationship with your dog. Both you and your dog will be better for it.
