Sit Means Sit Dog Training

We started our second dog through this training because of how it's changed our lives with our first dog. When we got our first, Sega, I tried everything to get her to behave, every tool you can name I tried, even put her on meds once. After about two years of owning her, we found SMS, and within a month, we had a whole different relationship. She became a role model citizen and the most well-behaved girl anyone has ever seen. And our relationship became one of love and mutual respect because we weren't constantly fighting over pulling on walks or chasing squirrels. And she had the freedom to be off-leash and still controlled when necessary. She stopped destroying things in the house and instead her brain was being worked when I asked her, and she was allowed to have sniff-walks that fulfilled her curiosity. We finally had a tool that both of us understood and we could communicate clearly. For the past almost 10 years we have thrived together, and now that Sega has a sister, Nova, we came back to work her through the program and get her on the right track. Trainers are clear, friendly, and helpful. Group classes are various hours and always nice to hone your skills. The practice around other controlled dogs has been a game changer for Nova as her dog reaction is something we are working on. Training is a lifetime, so the cost is nothing when you consider the years of good relationship you will have with your dog.

Sophie came in being super reactive to a lot of people and other dogs. It was so bad. She still is a little reactive but it is also still a work in progress. She has been attending training classes for the few months and has definitely improved. Being honest I was a little nervous about the collar however I think as long as you know how to use it properly it can be rewarding in the long run. I’m so thankful that her and I are able to sit outside and just hang out together without worrying if she is going to start acting out.

I’m writing this two years after we attended our last class. We have had many dogs, been through many training programs, but our border collie puppy, Sadie, was nuts! High strung and aggressive and traditional training was not working for us. We took her to Sit Means Sit and the transformation was amazing. She still is and will always be aggressive with other dogs but she pretty much ignores them unless one gets way up in her space. I was a little unsure about using the elec. collar but turns out at 4 years old Sadie is now mostly deaf. The collar is the best way for me to communicate with her!! Besides it’s more like a tap or a poke. Better than yanking a leash. All the training has stuck with her and she’s now an amazing dog. I could take her anywhere off leash (I don’t but I could). The classes also taught me how to teach her, so we’ve continued to train on our own. I didn’t give 5 stars because sometimes the classes were hard to get into. I also wish there was a “refresher” class that’s in between beginner and the advanced class. Overall the program is great.
