Sit Means Sit Dog Training

The reason that the majority of people board with Sit Means Sit is because we get the dogs out with other similar sized dogs to play and run their energy out. It is NOT our policy to send out photos of clients dogs. We occasionally will send out a picture, but are more inclined to answer phone calls about how a dog is doing. We follow PACFA guidelines to the number of dogs permitted in a group with a kennel tech. When dogs are interested in boarding, we have the owner come in for A “meet & greet” so we can is ascertain info about the dog. if the dog is not friendly with others, we really suggest that they board elsewhere to be exercised separately. Somehow,Kenzie did not come in for that meet & greet with her 2 dogs. Out kennel cards give info about the dog that is placed on their kennel. Examples of this info ; good with other dogs? Answers can be true, false, not sure, has not been socialized with other dogs. Tia’s form was marked good with other dogs, which tells us she can play. I apologize if that’s not what was wanted, but the owner did not verbally tell us at drop off not to socialize. The paperwork which has additional questions about exercising separately is much deeper in the file that is not readily available on the dogs kennels. (We don’t write the software). The 2 dogs played with others for 5 days with no problem. Unfortunately, dogs are still dogs and can sometimes not like other dogs. In a blink of an eye, one dog can decide it doesn’t like another. The kennel tech on duty immediately separated them and brought Tia inside to look her over. She was grabbed by the leg; we found 3 punctures that we flushed with chlorhexdine solution in a syringe and then topped with neosporin. Tia was put in a cone to keep from licking at it. We repeated this cleaning process every 3-4 hours while Tia was with us. Kenzies father came over the evening it happened to check on Tia. I told him I made A vet appointment for the next afternoon and would take her if needed. The next day the dog was eating well, still playing with her housemate when taken outside and doing well. The decision was made to continue the cleaning process then the owner could take to vet for follow up if they chose to. 2 Of my trainers and my kennel manager were there when Tia was picked up on Thursday. They recommended continuing to use a cone at home & to continue cleaning. There was not any involvement with the eye when she was in the yard. Was it possible that Tia was uncomfortable in the cone and fussing with it causing a scratch ? When a dog is placed on antibiotics, diarrhea is a very normal outcome. The bottom line is that dogs are still dogs and we notified the owner when there was a problem & took care of their dog. I was not there when Tia was picked up, but did pay for her vet bill the next day. Not every dog can come to a boarding facility. Tia was definitely a nervous anxious dog who should be boarded at home with a private sitter. We work very hard to take care of our clients dogs and will continue to do our best. We wish Kenzie the best with her dogs and hopefully she finds a sitter who will be able to keep them in a quiet private setting. Respectfully, Sandy Brady, owner
