Educating dogs and empowering owners throughout the Blue Hill Peninsula, Ellsworth/MDI, Belfast and Downeast Maine. Founded by Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, Whitney Thurston, our focus is on quality training that helps you truly connect with your dog. We offer general obedience training and group classes as well as day training and customized private training plans. Additionally, Whitney Thurston, CDBC, is one of the only certified dog behaviorists in Maine and is able to help with behavior modification for aggressive and fearful behavior dogs.

I attended the free puppy class and I learned a whole lot. The trainer is knowledgeable and professional. Based on that positive experience, I signed up for the Basic Obedience class. I am looking forward to training my dog with Salty Dogs.

I understand the rave reviews for Salty Dogs because who would't be thrilled with someone helping their dog? I am writing to say that in my case Salty Dog's communications are impolite at best. I wrote, called, and tried to speak to someone on site for well over a month. My question: "can you help with chasing people and when can you do it?" After several attempts over a period of weeks I got a reply asking for information on Toby. I senI a letter and photo, Then no more replies at all until I just got an answer that said, "we are still in business. We are not taking new customers." As I said there are a lot of happy reviews. Personally I'd hesitate to leave Toby with a trainer unable or unwilling to communicate about the project with me.

Hi Mark, as stated when you rudely accosted our staff and upset the dogs in our care, we are not an open facility (note the signs) and we cannot speak with folks while training dogs. I do not see anything impolite in any of my correspondence but I understand folks could have differing opinions on that. As referenced in at least two correspondence I am out of the office dealing with illness after suffering a head injury. I’m sorry that you didn’t get the answer you wanted but emailing many times does not actually get me back to work faster. Luckily we have worked with thousands of dogs and owners so I trust that your lack of compassion and review will have little impact. Good luck with your dog

I've brought my dog to just about all of Salty Dog's obedience classes, and I cannot say enough great things about them as a business and as trainers. They never made me feel silly for asking questions or for fumbling through learning a new thing with my dog.
