Do I need puppy training?

What does our board and train entail?
Training starts immediately upon arrival for a board and train. Dogs will be taught a marker based system of learning. They will be taken out in the community several days a week and during this time they will be required to be neutral to their environment. Throughout training, we will continue to add in distance, duration and distraction to proof all commands and ensure a calm state of mind. We do not believe in one standard training method for all dogs. We will work with owners to build a program to meet the specific needs of their dog and family. We make ourselves available throughout training to answer any questions and alleviate any concerns. We pride ourselves on our transparency and dedication to keeping owners up to date and informed on the progress of training.

Any dog is eligible for a board and train program. We can work with owners to address specific behavioral issues and training desires to tailor the training program for each dog. From the beginning, Emily was responsive, professional, and took the time to answer all of our questions. She provided regular updates, including photos and videos, which gave us confidence that Roo was in great hands and making progress throughout her training. One thing we especially appreciated was the time she spent with us when Roo returned home. Emily walked us through the training, demonstrated how to handle different situations, and made sure we understood how to continue building on Roo’s progress. That hands-on guidance gave us confidence and set realistic expectations for long-term success. It was clear throughout the process that Emily genuinely cared about both Roo’s progress and our ability to continue that progress after training. If you’re looking for a trainer who is knowledgeable, communicative, and invested in both the dog and the owner, Emily is an excellent choice.

Jillian worked so hard with my dog Finch! She spent three weeks helping him, during which I got daily videos displaying their practice and his progress, and I really appreciated her narration. Jillian consistently explained what she was doing, why they were doing it, and she gave her real-time observations of how my dog was handling the task/situation. One thing I really appreciated was the level of customization available - a company I had interviewed prior was very rigid about what they would work on during board and train. Ridgeside K9 Summerville was willing to address my specific concerns (including mouthiness, reactivity, and anxiety) while still providing a comprehensive obedience training experience. Jillian even spoke directly with our vet one day about Finch's progress while in training so our vet could better evaluate potential supportive medication. Jillian helped Finch to build skills sequentially and my teenage dirtbag of a dog returned home with better manners, improved impulse control, and an ability to remain neutral in public (which is amazing because he was a very reactive guy before board and train!). He had many adventures while in her care, all of which proved to my anxious pup, "we can do hard things." I sincerely appreciate the strong foundation that Jillian set and all of her guidance in helping me to learn how to consistently reinforce the rules and use the tools properly. I'm looking forward to attending future group training sessions, too!

Shonnah did an amazing job training Davie as well as me and my wife on how to continue his training at home. We started loose leash training and she was improving but needed a boost. The three week B&T seems to really have helped her mature. The level of engagement she has now is completely different. I was worried that she might have a problem with separation anxiety and didn’t know if I was doing the right thing. It was stressful but she came back the same loveable dog just more mature and focused. If you’re looking to get ahead on obedience training or just need a reset to get back on track then this might be just what you need.
