It is imperative for puppies to receive proper foundation training. This is particularly important during the critical period which occurs from birth to 16 weeks. During this time puppies should be exposed to as much of the world as possible. Although we understand that they are still very immature and not capable of advanced behaviors it is during this time that puppies can be taught how to learn. Once they understand this process, using a marker based system, they can easily learn throughout their life!

Training starts immediately upon arrival for a board and train. Dogs will be taught a marker based system of learning. They will be taken out in the community several days a week and during this time they will be required to be neutral to their environment. Throughout training, we will continue to add in distance, duration and distraction to proof all commands and ensure a calm state of mind. We do not believe in one standard training method for all dogs. We will work with owners to build a program to meet the specific needs of their dog and family. We make ourselves available throughout training to answer any questions and alleviate any concerns. I am so happy we found Ridgeside K9 Summerville for our Saint Bernard puppy, Moose! Shonnah was absolutely AWESOME and I can’t recommend her and Ridgeside enough! This is the first time we have ever done training with a trainer and I wish we had done it sooner for our previous dogs!!! We did the 3 week board and train and during that time Shonnah texted me with daily pictures and videos and walked us through every step of the process. Moose not only learned A LOT, but clearly enjoyed himself as well. We are excited to continue to reinforce all he learned. I can’t recommend this training enough!

Jeff has been an incredible trainer and support for our family. He helped our pit bull become calmer and more comfortable around other dogs, something we thought may never happen.
What stood out most was how much Jeff truly cares about the dogs he works with and about putting owners at ease. His commitment and knowledge completely changed our experience and restored hope when we needed it most. His communication was greatly appreciated during training, sending photos and videos daily. He really helped us understand our rescue dog better.
Even after training, as we've been introducing him to our other two dogs, Jeff has been consistently available, patient, and extremely thorough. He answers every question we have in detail.
We’re very grateful for Jeff and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a trainer who is knowledgeable, dedicated, and genuinely invested.

If you have a German Shepherd puppy and are hesitant about board and train, stop waiting and do it! GSDs are smart, but umm, high-energy, and I wanted to make sure we started Asuna off on the right foot, especially since my husband and I are new to the breed. We realized we had as much to learn as the doggo. Sending her away for three weeks felt like a big step (and almost broke my heart), but choosing Ridgeside and trusting Cori with her was truly the BEST decision we could have made. Communication was excellent from the start. Tara called immediately after we submitted an inquiry via the website, and followed up the next day via text to see if we had any additional questions or concerns. The intake form was also thorough, as was the initial consultation with Cori when she came to pick Asuna up. In addition to a very brief midpoint training session (arranged only because we missed her so much), I received daily updates, pictures, and videos showing Asuna working hard but also having fun. It was reassuring to see that she wasn’t just being trained; she was being loved, cared for, and making lots of new friends! Turnover was also handled incredibly well. Cori didn’t just hand the leash back; she actually taught both of us how to handle Asuna and maintain the hard work they did over the duration of the board and train. We also discussed behaviors specific to Asuna at length, and Cori helped us create a plan to address them. We can’t recommend Cori enough: her experience and expertise are invaluable. She understands the breed and has built such a sweet bond with our girl, along with a great foundation for more advanced training. Completely worth the investment, and we plan to continue working with Cori and Ridgeside in the years to come.
