We sent our 12 week puppy to the board and train puppy program with Trent! Before we sent him, he was a typical puppy. He would jump and nip, bark in the crate, have accidents in the house, and constantly pull on the leash. Since having him home, he does great in the crate, sleeps through the night, does a lot better with jumping and nipping, and does great walking on the leash! He made such an improvement in the 10 days Trent had him and we can’t wait to see his progress when he goes back for the adult program!

Bailey’s Story
Bailey became a member of our family when the unfortunate and sudden passing of my brother-in-law. My husband’s brother Mike found Bailey, when he stumbled onto his yard. Mike asked around about this dog. One of the surrounding neighbors mentioned that this dog was his, but if Mike wanted him the dog was his. Unfortunately, Mike would learn that Bailey had skin and multiple food allergies. Mike and Bailey were very close as Bailey was all Mike had. No wife, or kids. Mike and Bailey did everything together for a couple of years. One day Bailey was outside with Mike when some of the other neighborhood dogs ran up and attacked him. Mike was able to get them off and eventually away from Bailey.
Fast forward to when my son and husband Scott found bailey in the house where Mike had passed away. Not sure how long Bailey was there all alone in that house. Scott had promised Mike that if anything was to happen to him, that we would take care of Bailey. Which would start Bailey’s new journey with new parents and new pug brothers. We have 3 pugs that already live with us and are our world. We would have to keep Bailey, and our pugs separated because we were scared that Bailey may go after them since his attack, he had been standoffish around them, but curious. We would also have to feed the dogs separately because Bailey has a strong food dominant personality. Even we could get around him when he was eating.
Bailey got really close to my husband since Mike’s passing. It was hard for us because Bailey would freak out whenever Scott would leave the room, typically the kitchen. Where we would have to instal a wooden door to keep Bailey separated from the pugs. We would have to take turns when the pugs would get to go outside and when Bailey would be able to. Whenever Bailey would be outside and away from Scott he would just bark and bark. It was even harder for me; I couldn’t even go into the kitchen where Scott would be at to get anything or even get to my laundry room to do laundry. Then we heard about Ridgeside K9 Charlottesville. We got in touch with Trent the owner of Ridgeside K9 Charlottesville, he was so understanding and honest with us. Trent said that they would be able to help with Baileys issues, but no one could guarantee that Bailey would ever be able to be left alone with the pugs.
Then we met Rob Johnson, Bailey’s trainer when he came by to pick Bailey up. Rob listened to us when we were explaining the issues that we were having. Bailey went with Rob to stay at his house with his dogs for 3 weeks. He found an infection on Bailey’s leg, called right away for us to call the vet. He went to CVS to get the medication Bailey would need, took care of Bailey for us. The whole time we would get videos so we could see our boy. We also saw how Bailey was so attached to Rob while he was there. You could see the love and respect he had for Rob; how much he wanted to please him.
When Rob brought Bailey home, he spent the whole afternoon with us explaining and showing us what to do. The tension with Bailey was gone. He didn’t feel the burden of having to protect everything, he could just enjoy being a dog. It was amazing to see Bailey show what was expected of him. He even reintroduced Bailey to the pugs. It is truly unbelievable that we all can be in the same room together now. It’s a work in progress, the whole time you could see how Bailey wanted to please Rob. I know how well our boy Bailey was treated with Rob, he cried when Uncle Rob left. We love having our new Bailey home with us and our pugs.

Ridgeside is a wonderful program. Trent handled our case with care and placed us with our incredible trainer Wynn. We are absolutely blown away by the training that Wynn did with our puppy. She came to us timid and wild as could be and when we got her back, her behavior was worlds different! Throughout the three weeks we got daily photo and video updates on training and Wynn was on call to answer any questions. During the handoff, I was most impressed with the thoroughness with which Wynn showed us all the training he had done the past weeks. His walkthrough made me confident that I could implement her training. I appreciate the care and continuation of support that Ridgeside has!
