Quichapa Kennels

We had an excellent experience with Quichapa Kennel! Our two GSPs spent four weeks with Dallin and his team for their board and train program, and we couldn’t be happier with the progress they made. Dallin’s communication throughout the process was fantastic. He kept us informed, answered our questions, and gave us great insight into how our dogs were progressing. One of the biggest highlights was the exposure to bird hunting. Dallin and his team worked with our GSPs in the field, helping improve their pointing skills and even getting them started on retrieving. It was exciting to see their natural abilities develop and their confidence grow. We really appreciated the time, knowledge, and care Dallin and his team put into our dogs. We highly recommend Quichapa Kennel to anyone looking for a team that genuinely cares about dogs, understands their individual needs, and is committed to helping them become their best selves.

It genuinely pains me to leave the first negative review for Quichapa Kennels because everyone we interacted with was kind, professional, and communicated well throughout the process. We received updates every Wednesday as promised, and I truly believe they care about dogs. If our experience had been different, I would have happily recommended them. Unfortunately, after spending $1,000 on a month-long board-and-train program, we were very disappointed with the results. I understand that no trainer can guarantee outcomes, and every dog is different. This review is based solely on our experience and on what we felt was the value we received for the money. The one clear improvement we saw was that our dog no longer pulls on the leash as much during walks. Beyond that, we saw very little lasting improvement. Before training, she already knew commands like “sit,” “kennel,” and several others. We expected a month-long obedience program to build significantly beyond that. When she came home, she still jumped on guests, still knocked over our 3-year-old, still playfully bit at people’s arms when they reached down to pet her, still barked at strangers, still jumped on furniture she wasn’t supposed to, and within days of returning home she killed two of our chickens. Most concerning, she would only reliably respond to commands while wearing the e-collar. That leads to my biggest concern: the training approach. In our experience, the program appeared to rely heavily on the e-collar and corrections, with very little emphasis on rewarding desired behavior. Every other trainer we’ve worked with used positive reinforcement alongside corrections, helping our dogs understand that good choices lead to rewards. That approach produced lasting obedience both with and without training tools. Our dog now seems anxious whenever the collar comes out and responds far less consistently without it. To us, that suggests she learned to respond primarily to the collar rather than truly understanding and generalizing the commands. Again, this is only our experience, and others may have different results. The staff was friendly, caring, and honest in their communication, and I appreciate that. However, for our family, the results simply did not justify the cost. We are now paying another trainer to address the same issues we had hoped would already be resolved. I sincerely wish our experience had been different, but based on the results we received, I cannot recommend the program.

Lucy is the second dog that we have brought here for training. They did not disappoint. Lucy walks on a leash without pulling. She comes back when called. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. She has so much confidence and such a great citizen. We highly recommend having your dog come here. It’s nice to know that while Lucy was here she was with these amazing people who treated her with love and compassion. The communication while Lucy was here was above and beyond.

We cannot say enough good things about this company! They have now trained two of our dogs, and the results have been amazing. One of our dogs went through shed training, and our younger dog completed obedience training—and will definitely be back later this year for shed training as well. The training is very well priced, and both dogs behave so much better. You can truly see the knowledge and care that goes into their work. On top of that, they also groomed our pup, and did a fantastic job there too. Professional, knowledgeable, and absolutely worth it. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality dog training and grooming!
