I can’t say enough good things about Dave at Proactive Dog Training. We brought him our 7-month-old black lab, Max, and the progress has been incredible. Dave is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and knows exactly how to communicate with both the dog and the owner. He took the time to explain the “why” behind the training, which made it easy to stay consistent at home. Max is more focused, confident, and responsive, and the training has already made a huge difference in our day-to-day life. You can tell Dave genuinely cares about the dogs he works with and takes pride in what he does. If you’re looking for real results and a trainer who knows his craft, Dave and Proactive Dog Training are the way to go. Highly recommend! Lastly, and just a small example of what type trainer Dave is and how he runs his business. We had to cancel a day of training due to weather/snow. Dave immediately asked my wife and I even before the storm “when can we get this day back”. He even offered to come to our house to conduct the training on a Sunday. This speaks volumes!!!

You’ll be doing yourself and your dog a favor by signing up for training with Retired State Trooper Dave Lock. Dave came highly recommended to my husband and me and we now want to share our glowing recommendation of Dave with you as our 6-month old Doberman puppy, Maia, has completed 15 days of day training with him. There were significant results with Maia in the very first week, and continued through the next two. We now have a puppy who not only will stay in her “place” upon command, but will automatically put herself in her “place” and stay until “freed” (example: mealtimes). We also now have a puppy who “heels” and “comes” on command OFF-LEAD!!! You will not find a more genuine person and a person more passionate about what he does than Dave. His love for every dog and desire to see them succeed to afford them a happier and safer life is reflected in the limitless time he will spend with YOU to enable YOU to follow through with ensuring that life for your pet. He will not even allow you to commit to training until you have researched him. He and his beautiful family opens up their home to the pets we own and adore and treats them like they are part of their family. We especially love how much fun he ensures they have within the training sessions - Maia smiles her big hilarious smiles as soon as she sees him at drop-off time which, in itself, means more than anything I have written. If you are like us, and have never experienced the joy of a happy, well-mannered and obedient dog, you can find that joy through Dave.

We enrolled our two dogs in Dave’s 2 week training program in October of this year. We have a 5yr old Cavapoo and a 5 yr old Bull Mastiff. I’ll start with the problems we were having.. 1. Walking them on a leash.They both were pulling and just out of control. 2. They were in desperate need of socialization. Mastiff would jump on people, bark and pull hard on leash. The Cavapoo pulled and would also bark at strangers. 3. People knocking on our front caused complete chaos. 4. They both barked at every animal on TV which by the way, there is a dog in every freaking commercial! After they trained with Dave they were taught all the basic commands. Sit, down, stay, quiet, heel, wait and place.They both walk beautifully together now and every time we stop, they sit. My husband and I have been taking them to stores and they even let people pet them. They now respond to the word ‘quiet’ after we let them bark a few times. We don’t lock them up anymore when people come over. We make them sit with their collars on and on a leash until the person enters our home. We are still working on ‘place’ command when there is a random knock at the door but this takes patience and you need to be ready. Since we have 2 dogs it’s more challenging when only one of us is at home BUT this is only because we need to be more prepared. The dogs will do what we say IF we are prepared. If you don’t work at it, they won’t work at it. We also have been able to stop the excessive barking and the barking at the television. Dave at Proactive is the real deal. I can’t say enough good things. He is amazing.
