Paws 'n' Rec - Lake Mead

I have two pit bulls one 65lbs one 95lbs. The only place I trust to take care of my fur babies when I'm out of town is Club K9. When you have dogs like mine you need to know someone is able to handle them that knows what they are doing. After years of using them for boarding and occasional training I enrolled one of my pits into their 10 week behavior modification training. One of my dogs was very reactive with other dogs and since his training I have seen a huge change in his reactivity. I recently took him to the vet where upon entering there were about 5-7 dogs of all sizes and he did not react to any of them. All the vet staff said he was a perfect obedient dog when they took him back. Granted, you have to do the work when your dog comes back. If you expect to not keep up what they have learned then it's on the dog owner def not the training giving by the staff at club k9.

10/10 recommend. Worth every penny. It is worth noting that I did the Service Dog Training for my dog that started the process when she was 9 months old. Within two weeks she had all the basics down, way more than I could have done on my own. (Apologize in advance for any name spellings). From the very beginning, after what felt like the longest two weeks, I went to my first in person training. Emily was great. She was very patient and extremely detailed in her training to you as the owner, and helps you establish a connection with your dog. Repetition is the key to the game. From there my next phase of training was with Manny. Who walks you through diligently on the commands. There is clear transparency on modifications and improvements that you as the owner needs to make. "you need to make sure you reward your dog more quickly." "that was good, but you confused your dog because you did or didn't do this. Lets try it again." At the end of the day, this class is equally about training you as the owner as it is your pup, and this initial phase is ensuring you as the owner know all the commands. From there you go to Merlyn. By the time you reach her section of the class, you should have the basics down. At this point, your dog is already living at home with you, so you have first hand knowledge on what items need more work and or repetition. I can assure you, your dog will tip toe the line of what is acceptable behavior, especially when back home. For me, it was maybe 3 out of 4 paws in the area for the place command is enough. The next time lets see if 2 out of 4 paws. As they tell you at the facility, it comes down to what you the owner is willing to tolerate, so I repeated the process until 4 paws were within the limits of "place." Merilyn expects excellence, because by the time they send you home with your dog, they have verified that you and your dog can do all the commands. Merilyn is also very patient, and ensures you remember what commands you need to give and how to give them, truly constructive criticism on areas of improvement. Which I understand. At this point, your dog is interacting with other dogs and really being put to the test with real life scenarios, and any and every distraction you can think of. At the end of the day, they are going to say that you passed their training, and how your pup behaves in public is a reflection of that. I cannot stress enough the amount of repetition you need to do, especially while at home long before you take your dog in public. Erica was great throughout the whole process, answered any questions, provided insight and feedback with great enthusiasm. What things worked for them. Each dog is unique. My dog would likely say that it comes down to how much she is rewarded after every successful command execution. If you have any doubts about this class I can give you my very real life experience. The training and repetition at home is a lot, especially if your dog has areas that need additional work (with my pup it was trimming nails at the groomer). One day, the most amazing thing will happen. One incident paid for the entire training. At a restaurant, I had taken my dog and other misbehaved dogs came and tried to run at her and attack her. She was laying down, in no specific command given, and she immediately went to her heel command, and looked at me like "what is the next move?" I gave her the command to back up, and when at safe distance put her in sit command, and she was calm as ever, while the other owners struggled with controlling their respective dogs. Everyone was astonished at her behavior, but for us, just another walk in the park. Club K9 Lake Mead is doing it right!
