Paws 'n' Rec - Lake Mead

We originally considered using Club K9 just for boarding while we were away for our wedding and honeymoon, but ultimately decided to enroll Frosty in their two-week training program as well, and we are so glad we did. One of our biggest goals was improving his manners and helping with his reactivity around other dogs. Before training, he often seemed scared or defensive when other dogs were nearby, even if we were simply walking past them. Since coming home, the difference has been huge. He is much calmer and more manageable around other dogs. He still gets excited sometimes, but his mindset seems completely different—now it feels much more like he wants to go meet or play with them rather than reacting out of fear or defensiveness. His overall manners have improved tremendously, too. His leash walking is top tier. He was already relatively good on a leash, but they really fine-tuned his ability to walk beside us and stay with us. He is much more responsive to commands, and one of the biggest improvements has been learning to hold a command until he is given the next one, without constantly needing to be told to “wait” or “stay.” We unfortunately weren’t able to do our first in-person training session when we picked Frosty up because we arrived later than planned, but our follow-up hands-on session was incredibly helpful. The trainer had a full practice area set up with cones and beds so we could work through commands with Frosty ourselves while receiving live feedback and corrections. It gave us a much better understanding of how to continue reinforcing everything he learned at home. We especially appreciated how willing they were to tailor the session to our real life. We live full-time in a fifth wheel, and one of our biggest safety concerns was Frosty rushing through the door and down the stairs ahead of us or right behind our legs. When we brought this up, the trainer immediately created a practice setup with cones and walked us through different techniques for teaching Frosty to stop and wait at the doorway until we are safely down the steps and release him. Having someone work through a situation that specific to our lifestyle with us on the spot was extremely valuable. Overall, we are extremely happy with Frosty’s progress and our experience with Club K9. The training gave him a great foundation, but just as importantly, they gave us the tools and knowledge to keep building on it ourselves. We can see a real difference in his confidence, manners, and ability to listen, and we would absolutely recommend Club K9 to anyone considering their boarding and training programs.

We have boarded our pup with Club K9 twice in the last 4 years. Both times, our dog became ill with kennel cough. Upon pick up, he was terribly thirsty the entire day. It was clear he was ill (coughing and sneezing) from the moment we saw him. I think they do a decent job here, but I’m not sure we could recommend it unless you had no other options, especially for the cost of boarding. Overall, our dog was kept safe and that’s what important.

Where do I even start? From beginning to end, the staff at Club K9 were outstanding! Our family originally inquired about a 2 week stay. After speaking with Merlin (Lead Trainer) she convinced us that the 1-month program was the best program to go for our dogs Kona and Maui (Bernedoodles). All the training staff and employees were always cheerful, respectful and genuinely love dogs. Needless to say, we were worried about our fur babies. Club K9 went above and beyond our expectations and made us feel comfortable leaving our dogs with them for a month. Big shout out to Brooke, Merlin, Cierra, Jordan and the whole staff at Club K9 - Lake Mead! Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to Kona and Maui! The program was not the cheapest by no means but was well worth the investment!
