Paws 'n' Rec - Lake Mead

We were at a point in having Sage where we were going to need to surrender or re-home her. She was reactive to people (men more than anything) and dogs, reacted negatively to smaller animals, pulled significantly on the leash, and was triggered by ANY noise she heard. It even got to a point where she was reacting to her brother and sister getting older and not being able to play with her. Treats, toys, attention...there was nothing we could do with our other dogs that didn't make Sage react. Finding Paws 'n' Rec has literally changed the trajectory of our lives as well as Sage's. We initially signed up for the 4 week stay program and ended up doing the 6-week Behavior Modification program. It was literally the greatest money we've ever spent in our entire lives. Jordan, Merlin, Ciara, Abraham, and all of the staff really helped Sage find the confidence she needed to be able to live a better life. In the beginning, Sage was terrified of them and their love and care for her allowed her to open up and truly be open to the behavior modifications she needed. From drop off, Jordan got down to truly gauge where she was at. Her first few weeks were hard...but the staff worked SO HARD to help her grow and be her best Sager Rager self. Now that we're out of her 6-week stay and into her post-training classes...I just love seeing how excited every staff member gets to see her. And how they all reflect on the growth she's made from the beginning of her program. Her manners, reactivity, and aggression have all done a complete 180 degree turn. She can meet new people without jumping and being on edge, we can put NEW DOGS without her even flinching, knocks on the door don't bother her anymore...the list is literally endless. Is it a steep price? Yes. But I would pay double for the growth Sage has experienced and the love that everyone at the facility gives to Sage. This is the best experience ever and I am so thankful for each person who took part in turning Sage into a model citizen.

I do not recommend this facility. Although the staff was nice and the trainers seemed knowledgeable, that does not excuse the lies, poor communication, and disorganization. Their website states that they offer a “30-minute tour where customers can walk through the cage-free, climate-controlled facility with a team member.” However, when I asked for a tour, I was told they do not give tours and that I could only look through the window of the training area. I also paid for four weeks of off-leash training, but not once during any of the training classes I attended did they work with my dog off-leash. Their website says they teach dogs to respond to commands off-leash and from a distance, but my dog can’t even heel properly off leash because he was only trained on Leash. My six-month-old Doberman, Draco, stayed there for one month. About two weeks into his stay, I visited to post his ears and found him covered in feces. A staff member said she would give him a bath, and I tried not to think too much of it because he was still a puppy. Two days later, I picked him up for a veterinary appointment, and he was covered in feces again. I bathed him myself and spoke to the front desk, but they only apologized and said they had not informed me. I then told them I needed a fecal sample for his veterinarian within five days. When I returned five days later, they had not collected it. I came back the next day, and they admitted they forgot again. I had to come to the facility three days in a row just to get one fecal sample because of how disorganized they were. When Draco returned for his recheck a week later, he once again smelled strongly like feces. I also overheard other owners complaining that their dogs were covered in urine, and their dogs were not puppies. Another issue they are not upfront about is how long the dogs are left overnight. I understand that staff cannot stay there all night, but the dogs appear to be left for well over 12 hours, which is longer than any boarding facility I have seen. They also said they accept dog beds and certain toys that are not choking hazards. However, every time I attended training, there were more than 40 dogs there and I did not see a single dog with a bed or toy. They should simply say they do not use beds or toys instead of accepting customers belongings and leaving them in the back for a month. I honestly believe the beds are not placed in the runs because the dogs are not taken out often enough and may urinate where they sleep, which would require the staff to clean the beds and toys repeatedly. When I picked Draco up, they could not find his bed and suggested that he may have chewed it. That did not make sense because it appeared they had never given it to him. After repeatedly asking me which bed was his, they finally found it labeled with another dog’s name. They also gave me a toy that did not belong to him. I had provided a full bag of pig ears with clear instructions written on the bag that he was supposed to receive one each day with lunch which I give him help prevent plaque buildup. When I picked him up, the entire bag was still full, and he had noticeable plaque on his teeth. Overall, this facility was extremely disorganized, Draco regressed significantly with potty training, and I did not receive the off-leash training I paid for. He learned on-leash manners and they showed us how to properly use an e-collar, but I paid for off-leash training that he did not receive.
