Patience Inspired Dog Training

Hi, my name is Annie and I just wrapped up the Beginner Obedience Class with Patience Inspired Dog Training—and I had such a great time! Sahvanna really gets dogs like me (stubborn and fussy about treats) and helped my pawrents figure out how to work with me in a way that actually makes sense. We practiced useful skills like sit, stay, and recall, all with a calm, kind approach. Even when I got distracted (which happens a lot), Sahvanna was patient and encouraging. I even got to see some goats and play with some wonderful other dogs, which made class extra fun! Now I’m feeling more confident, and my human keeps calling me a “good girl,” which means more belly rubs—so everyone’s happy. I’m looking forward to trying out some agility and rally classes next. The people here were very nice, but they teach tricks, not behavior. None of the dogs I know who went here are well-behaved. The trainers focused solely on positive reinforcement, which works when you want your dog to do something like sit, stay, or twirl. But they don't address how to STOP your dog from doing negative behaviors, like jumping, chasing, or barking incessantly. All of the dogs I know who are truly well-behaved were trained with a combination of positive and corrective techniques. I would not recommend this school to someone who wants a truly well-behaved dog.

I had adopted a small, deaf, senior dog who had been abandoned, and who understandably had some separation anxiety and other issues. Michelle, who had come highly recommended to me and who had worked with deaf dogs before, was absolutely brilliant with her--so patient and loving and creative and supportive of me as I tried to learn myself. She also had me laughing every session, which was just a bonus. I cannot recommended her highly enough--she was so good to my dear girl who had been through so much. I will never forget it.

I signed up for a 6 session puppy lesson. Unfortunately, after the first lesson, a debilitating medical condition caused me to have to withdraw from future sessions. I asked for a refund of half of the payment and was declined. I find it sad that people seem to have a big heart for fur babies but no compassion for one another. I am very disappointed in the lack of understanding for my situation. My response to owner's response: 1. If I had known I couldn't make the drive, especially after wrangling with a puppy in class, I would not have signed up for the class. Obviously. 2. I did not take a spot in the class that could have gone to someone else - in fact, the 'group' class had only one other dog. I got the impression that the class after mine had at least 8 dogs. 3. When I signed up I made it clear that my goal was to be in a group for training. You could have informed me then to attend a different class, but you did not. 4. Since my goal was to train Murphy with the distractions of being in a group, I informed you that I am not interested in private lessons. 5. Compromising at 50% refund is fair. 6. A business's character is not evident when things are peachy, it is defined by how exceptions are handled. My exception has been handled disrespectfully and heartlessly.
