Ohio State K-9 College

Feeling hopeless that you’ll have “that dog”? You know, the one that you always have to lock up around company, dread taking out in public or to the vet? I’ve been there!! As a multiple time large breed owner I know how defeating it is to feel always on edge when it comes for our fur babies. I recently acquired a 9mo Great Dane weighing in at 145lbs. I knew I couldn’t have another dog that always did what they wanted and only sometimes what I wanted. I wanted an obedient, happy, people friendly companion to be part of our family ( not just a dog). After weeks of google searches, phone call, sales pitches and false promises, I talked with Joe. His knowledge and years of experience helped put me at ease. His direct and straight to the point explanations helped me realize what I needed/wanted out of my training, different methods ( spike/ shock vs pure voice command) and the expectations required on both sides. I am excited to see and post our experience with what is to come at Ohio State K-9 College.

I want to start off by saying this is NOT just your average training course. Joey doesn't only train your dog, he gives you the skills to continue on to be successful with your dog. He doesn't use treats, collars or shockers at all. That's one of the main reasons we chose Ohio State K-9 College. We had done alot of research, 47+ years experience along with 100% voice commands sounded unbelievable! That sold us right there. We were excited for the life change we needed to be able to enjoy our fur baby. We brought our beautiful 8 month old pitbull to Joey. He is high energy, chews everything and a big baby. He does things on his own terms and his own time. We had our evaluation, Joey said he is a very anxious dog that's very focused on play. He couldn't be more right about that. We had our first session with Joey, he had our baby doing commands he completely ignored before. He had our dog listening to our whispers! We couldn't believe the progress we have already made. And I just want to add voice command is 100% all that he needed to have our dog learning things he has never done for us before. That was just the first session!

I am so EXCITED I found Ohio State K-9 College!! I have been training my Belgian Malinois, Nova, on my own, but I feel like I'm doing a disservice to her, and she deserves real, professional trainingn by a Master Trainer. I have spent countless hours researching over several months, and it has left me more overwhelmed and confused than ever. Looking at all the different amateur training school options, not one of them provides all of the courses that Ohio State K-9 College provides, including the effective 1 on 1 training with the only Master Trainer in central Ohio. When I found the website, I immediately closed all of my other tabs, because I finally found what I have been looking for. Just by reading the valuable information the website provides, I learned more in 30 minutes, than I did in hours and hours of research I have done in the past. My dog is my absolute pride & joy, and my entire world. I will put anything & everything into her training - I just want to do it the best way possible, with a real Master Trainer (this makes a HUGE difference!!). She is an extremely fast learner, and deserves the absolute best! I am ecstatic to have found Ohio State K-9 College!! I can't wait to work with Joe, his furbabies Sky (Sky is the limit!) & Star, and be a great part of their team! He spent a considerable amount of time explaining everything to me on the phone, and got me on his schedule within days! He also provides several of his classes for free!!! (socialization, housebreaking, obedience). I NEVER say that I am excited for Monday, but I am because thats when we get to start!! READ the website, do you research and go to a real Master Trainer to give your furbaby the absolute best training experience possible!! There is only one Master Trainer in the region, and that is Joe!

Finding Joey Byas has truly been life-changing. Over the past six years, I spent thousands of dollars working with four different trainers. Yet Joey taught me more about dogs — and the dog training industry — for free than all of them combined ever did. He generously spent hours with me on multiple phone calls, sharing knowledge and insights that none of my previous trainers had ever explained. Everything he taught simply made sense and completely changed how I work with my dogs today. My previous trainers relied on choke collars, prong collars, and E-collars. I was never fully comfortable with those techniques, but I didn’t realize there was a better way. Thanks to Joey, I now understand how to properly train my dogs using his 100% VOICE CONTROL training method — the more effective approach I had always hoped for. Joey is a true expert with an incredible passion for both dogs and their owners. His dedication, generosity, and willingness to help are unlike anything I’ve experienced in the industry. I only wish I had found him six years sooner.

As I told Joey, it's premature to request a review before providing any services. He replied that it was required to meet with him and that he wanted a review of why I wanted to attend his "school". And it did not matter to him that I have a learning disability and don't communicate well in a written format. He also said he wanted me to be completely honest and that he could handle the truth. I am interested in Ohio State K9 because it is currently the only school that I have found within a reasonable drive time that offers treat-free training. My current trainer relies too heavily on them to the point that they've actually made my dog sick before. I am genuinely interested in seeing if he is as good as he thinks he is, and if he can handle honest feedback, or if he's going to cancel our session in the morning because I didn't leave him a five-star review before receiving services.
