Throughout the 8 week reactivity program, we experienced some difficulty not so much with Bentley but on utilizing the ecollar correctly and consistently. Yes, your dog was severely reactive, but he responded to the training and confidence building exercises well. He protested against the commands given, so we emphasized the importance of not letting him get out of the training and following through each time you ask him to do something so that the expectations were crystal clear. We clearly explained the importance of Pack Leadership and being as fair as possible while also holding him accountable to his general obedience. I also don’t recall you making any comment through your whole 8 weeks that the training was pushing Bentley “too hard”, you showed your gratitude for helping with your dog and his obedience. Both you and your husband even tipped me money out of your gratitude, in which I was super grateful for. And Sheri, you gave me a hug at the end of our last lesson. We took it slow and progressively worked our way up to your dog’s biggest challenge which were clearly dogs. By lesson #8 Bentley was holding his commands while dogs walked by on the other side of the fence at a dog park at least 20 feet away without him. Bentley was doing great and has a lot of potential! I also made sure to emphasize the importance that you kept the obedience training up everyday at least 45 minutes a day for as long as you needed. At the end of your program I truly felt you guys made progression and developed the skills to manage your dog’s reactivity with more confidence. Although you guys struggled throughout the whole program using the tools and practicing consistently, I believe that in my role as your personal dog trainer, I felt that I fulfilled my purpose and my job in helping you learn and develop the necessary obedience skills so that you could better control your Bentley in various settings and situations with 100% confidence! I felt like I gave you guys the skills and knowledge to handle Bentley, but I believe that if you don’t put in the work you’re not going to see the results.
