Off Leash K9 - Raleigh Durham

Denise from Off Leash K9 in Raleigh Durham trained my five month old mini golden doodle. We could not be more impressed with the difference in our puppy after he spent two weeks with her. She is extremely knowledgeable in dog behavior and training. She trained my husband and I as much as she trained our sweet puppy. He was wearing us out with a lot of his puppy behaviors before training and we really didn’t know how to handle him. He is now a pleasure to be around and is listening so well. I highly recommend Off Leash K9 of Raleigh Durham and wouldn’t have anybody else train my puppy 😀

Trainer Denise is amazing. I cannot say enough good things. I was super hesitant to try dog training because all of my friends who had used various trainers in the past had such terrible experiences. That is not the case with Denise at K9 Off Leash. She is so knowledgeable, confident and gets the dog’s attention. But she is also encouraging and extremely responsive to the owner. As I have questions in between training sessions she is super responsive. Today she even stayed 20 minutes past our lesson to make sure that Maverick was truly understanding what it meant to heel. I was literally in tears of gratitude at the end of my lesson. I’m so thankful I found K9 off leash. Denise is truly a life saver!

PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH ON NON-AVERSIVE TRAINING METHODS BEFORE DECIDING ON USING AN E-COLLAR. I went through 8 sessions of training with this company when my dog was still a puppy. She is now 3 years old. While this was helpful at the time to manage her behaviors and enforce basic obedience, the difficulties I described to my trainer were clearly signs of anxiety in my puppy. Unfortunately I did not know this and relied on what I thought was the expert opinion of the trainers. Using an e-collar to manage these behaviors have led to a host of other issues. After reaching out at a later date to express concern and seek help on some reactivity and guarding behaviors I had noticed, the owner suggested I work on her heel and down stability. Again, using an aversive tool in these circumstances was the worst possible advice as this just associates more fear. Think about it - if you got a shock every time you walked by someone who freaked you out, you might just get even more freaked out! Do not mistake my review as a blanket statement that e-collars or this company are terrible as a whole. Plenty of people have good outcomes. But, had I been educated on any of the risks or had the "experts" picked up on the clear signs of anxiety my pup was showing, I'm confident I would not be dealing with the intensity of behaviors I am today. Please educate yourself on the potential impact of aversive training tools as I was sorely let down when seeking help. I strongly recommend the use of a certified professional dog trainer who has actual education and standards to uphold in the veterinary community. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior has a clear stance against e-collars. ETA: I did not misunderstand. The communication I received was clear. Unfortunately I expected the trainer and company who I paid a considerable amount with to educate me on how my dog was in fact not calm nor stable. Instead of reaching back out I listened to the new certified trainer and veterinary behaviorist I spent even more money with.
