New Hope Dog Training Center

We sent our 4 month old BIG Saint Berdoodle puppy to Gene and Berk at New Hope Dog Training Center to learn some manners. 😊 we are SO happy we did. He has come home a much more gentlemanly version of himself, equipped with the tools to maintain and continue learning to fit into our household and behave himself 🐶! Among the issues we were dealing with were constant rough play-biting, jumping on people, running from us, destructive chewing (shoes etc), and just an overall lack of discipline. Some of this is to be expected in a pup this young, but as ours is a giant breed and we have little people in our extended family, we felt it was our responsibility to get these behaviors under control early, and before our guy weighs 150 lbs 😂. Gene is a talker. That should be said up front. Lots of chatty, casual, off the cuff type anecdotes and examples…but after a 40+ year career training all types of dogs, he has a lot to cover and lots to share. The bottom line for us is the results. Our dog came back fully crate and housebroken. He was getting there before he went to Gene, but we were still having some accidents, and could not put him in the crate at all without howling and scream-barking constantly. He now loves his crate and happily goes “night night” in it—meaning I say the word “night-night” (one of the commands we chose and have worked on), and he gets up from wherever he is and walks into his crate. No fuss, no resistance. Our shoes are safe and my kids’ legs and feet appreciate the reprieve from the constant play nipping. Well worth every penny. Gene gets RESULTS. Our pup is happy and mannerly. Now it feels like a family of 5 rather than a family of 4 with a large fuzzy hellion running around unchecked.Cannot recommend enough, and have already shared with friends who are taking their pitty puppy this month. Do not hesitate. Gene is the real deal.

I can’t say enough great things about New Hope! I really wasn’t sure how my 7 year old morkie was going to do with the training, but turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks. She’s made incredible progress and is truly thriving, and so am I! Everyone notices a huge difference in her behavior. We’re a little over a week past the last online session, and things are still going great! I’ve regained control, feel confident as a dog owner, and I’m excited to see where we are a few months from now. Biggest takeaway for myself, was Gene’s classic saying, “gotta be the mom, and stop being the girlfriend.” A new perspective can go a long way! Thanks New Hope!!

I shopped carefully for a board and train facility for my nine month old Russell terrier. After three weeks with New Hope Dog Training Center, we are a different team. It was definitely the right choice. He was well cared for, and a more obedient version of his happy self when he came home. I have been trained to manage my dog; he has made great strides in his obedience, and is now a pleasure to have around. I have the training to continue to make progress with him, and he is an eager learner. Truly management training for dog owners! Worth every penny -- IF you follow the program. The dog can only do as well as the owner, in the end.

Gene knows what he’s doing and has been doing it for a long time. When I took my pup in, she didn’t listen as much, was very hyper and all over the place which was quite challenging. When I got her back, she was more receptive to listening and calmer which which makes it an overall more enjoyable life with my dog. He gives you tools to continue training and is available/open to hearing any questions and concerns you have. I appreciated being able to speak about my concerns prior to the program and have my expectations managed for the entire experience. I would certainly send her to Gene again and I’m glad we went to New Hope for training.

This was a great and successful experience. Gene and Berk took in our Pyrenees and transformed his behavior. More importantly, they transformed our way of thinking and how we understand our relationship with our dog. They created a simple, easy-to-follow framework that gives us and our dog the space to have a loving and rewarding relationship while setting boundaries. They are realistic and convey the message, "Is it more important that your dog can sit for a treat, or that they can recall on command 100% of the time in the event they dart towards a busy road?" Gene keeps things lighthearted and fun, but truly imparts eye-opening wisdom about dogs and you as their owner. Other reviewers are correct when they say that Gene trains YOU first and foremost. He sets you on a path for success. This isn't a one-and-done ordeal; it's a reset and a committed investment by you, the owner, knowing that by following the path, the next 10 years of your dog's life will be much more enjoyable and safe for both the dog and you.
