Naked Dog Training

My Dog Klaus who is a very smart but also very stubborn German shepherd had started with some growling and resource guarding me and his frisbees as well as being mean /dominating my 9 year old shepherd male. John at Naked Dog Training evaluated my dog and recommended 6 week board and train. Klaus has been a challenge as he is a working dog and very attached to me but with John’s expertise and a lot of work he has stopped growling and is following commands. There has been no more growling and I continue to go to classes so that I can learn how to handle Klaus properly! John and his team have been great for me and my dog! I highly recommend their service!!!

I am a veterinarian who practices veterinary medicine just outside of Chicago as well as in Indiana. About twenty years ago, I was introduced to John (owner of Naked Dog Training) by a mutual client of ours. While providing veterinary care for their newly acquired and highly trained dogs they purchased from John, I realized that I had never seen dogs trained to this level. Upon meeting John in person, I was impressed with his knowledge of dogs, their behavior (especially aggression), and training methods. To sum up the last twenty years: I’ve purchased two fully trained German Shepherds imported from Europe from John, as well as my present Belgian Malinois, Bach. Bach was trained by John in his Life’s an Adventure program as well as to serve as my mobility assist service dog. Between my clients and the people who have met my dogs and have seen the control when I’m out and about doing errands, I have surprisingly ended up referring many obedience clients to John over the years. This is in spite of us living 15+ hours away from Boston. In fact, as I write this review, there are two dogs at Naked Dog Training that are patients of mine. I also need to give mention to Ruth, John’s wife, who has become extremely knowledgeable about training. She originally was from Chicago and was a veterinary manager at one of the practices that I worked for. I introduced them when she accompanied me on one of my trips to his facility! It would be a gross understatement to say I’m a huge fan of John, Ruth, and their entire staff.

Working with the team at Naked Dog Training was truly a lifechanging experience for my family and our Siberian Husky. Maintaining obedience and control while offleash is literally adding years to my dog's life as she is able to run free on a daily basis, and I never have to worry about recall. Furthermore, making the transition from a kid-free household to a baby + toddler + dog household was a sensitive and critical task to get right, especially to ensure the safety of my children - I'm not sure we would have made it without John and his team's help and guidance.

We brought our one and a half year old Golden Retriever to Naked Dog Training when we started to see some aggressive behavior. He stayed there for about 6 weeks to train and we have been doing weekly classes with him since. I have nothing but fantastic things to say about our experience. When we picked him up from the board and train, he was immediately more manageable. Every week we learn new commands and can troubleshoot anything that has come up since our previous training session. The owner, John, is incredibly knowledgeable and it is immediately apparent that he is passionate about his work. We have been working mostly with Addison during our training classes and she is amazing! She is friendly, professional and so well informed. She makes the training fun and our dog loves her SO much!! The other trainers that we have briefly interacted with are also so personable. It’s just a really welcoming and positive vibe whenever we are there. I cannot recommend Naked Dog Training enough! We drive from an hour+ away to come here and it is so worth it!!

Amazing trainers! They really care about the dogs and treat them well. It was like a miracle with our dog who we didn’t train as a puppy so she was kinda wild and crazy. She’s now awesome and easy. It does take quite a few weeks for them to train the dogs. But it works! We paid the extra $25/night to have her go home with her trainer at night which is totally worth it, knowing she is being snuggled and not in the kennel. Once the dog is trained, you go once a week to learn the commands. They’re super patient with me LOL!
