Mavis K9 Academy

We adopted a one year old English Staffordshire Bull Terrier from IACS. This type of dog is highly intelligent and has a very high energy level. We sent him to Mavis K9 Academy for the two week training to work on his behaviors. We received daily videos of our dog from the academy. We were able to see the progress over time. When we picked up our dog, we had a final training session in a public place. Mavis K9 provided us with the tools and understanding how we needed to continue training. We received a personalized binder providing a review of the two week training. We also received what the next steps would be moving forward. With Mavis K9 providing a solid foundation, we are better equipped to provide the continued trading and guidance. I can’t say enough how this training has helped our staffy so much. Based on the videos and our interaction with the trainer, he really cares a lot about the dogs he trains. We highly recommend Mavis K9.

We took our dog River for the Board and Training with Greg. Our 82 lb "puppy" had some trouble listening and keeping his front paws on the ground. After just a week we saw improvement and were happy with the results after the 2 weeks ended. River still has a ton of energy, but has learned to listen much better. Greg was very informative and gave us all the info/tools we needed to continue keeping River on the right path. Greg experience and patience with the animals is second to none. He's great about keeping you updated during the time. While we greatly missed our River, we always felt reassured he was safe and having a great time. Highly recommend!

I don't have enough words to describe what a phenomenal experience my family had with Greg at the Mavis K9 Academy. My husband and I lost our first dog together late last year. We did a lot of reflection after our loss about things we could do better for our future dog and for ourselves as responsible dog owners. Our girl was great - but she was tough to walk on a leash, had pretty poor recall, and was very dog-reactive. We came to the conclusion pretty quickly that training - for all of us - was at the very top of that list. We didn't think we'd ever be ready for another dog, but when we met Solomon at an HCAS adoption event we knew he was meant to be with us and that we wanted to get training started ASAP. We are close followers of HCAS and try to support them as much as possible. We saw some videos shared about Mavis K9 Academy volunteering time at the shelter and so we decided that would be the best place to start. We reached out and were quickly contacted by the owner, Greg. Greg fondly recalled working with our boy at the shelter and was happy to connect with us so that we could learn where Solomon was at and how we could best pick up and carry on his training. Our first session was absolutely phenomenal! Solomon was so unbelievably excited to see his friend again and watching him fall right back into the things he learned during his brief interactions with Greg at the shelter was nothing short of amazing. We were blown away at the amount of things our boy knew how to do once we learned how to communicate with him in a way he understood. We got an overview of all the verbal cues they had used together and then how to mark and reward Solomon to reinforce his learning. Greg was so patient with this admittedly slightly neurotic dog mom and I felt so much more well prepared to transition Solomon into our home. We did do another follow-up lesson, but so much was accomplished in such a short time that we'll only return on an as-needed basis. We are thankful for every little nugget of information that Greg shared with us and look forward to continuing on with the work to help our boy shine. One last thing I'd like to share is that our training time with Greg was more than just teaching our boy good manners; it was also a chance to learn how to communicate and enrich our relationship. Part of the bonding process, especially with a shelter dog, is learning to trust one another, setting those fundamental boundaries, and how to communicate effectively. Solomon is able to feel more safe and secure in this new environment because of this little bit of time we took to invest in him and that is absolutely priceless. If you're thinking about training for your dog, I can't recommend Greg at Mavis K9 Academy enough.

My wife and I dropped off my year and 1/2 old husky lab mix to Mavis who struggled with pulling on leash, listening and jumping. After the 2 week board and train we’ve noticed huge improvements, Sturgill is more engaged to learn. Greg made sure we had daily updates of the dogs and different things they were learning. Upon pickup, we were sent home with everything we would need to keep going with the training. We appreciate that Greg still let the dogs still be dogs, is available for questions and his love for each animal is so evident.
