First, we will identify the root cause of the barking. It is not always what you might perceive it to be. For example, a dog might bark any time a guest enters your home. This does not mean that the dog is aggressive, or that the dog doesn't like people. This may actually stem from a lack of confidence and the need for clear boundaries. Barking is more than a physical reaction- together, we will discover the mental/emotional process behind the barking, and address the root cause head-on.

A dog that feels rewarded for a certain behavior will continue that behavior. In most instances, a dog that jumps is a dog that has been ''rewarded'' for doing it too many times to know that it is not something you want. Rewards can include the way that you excitedly speak to the dog or pet the dog during the behavior. If the dog is only rewarded with affection and attention once they have settled, they will learn to settle. I can help you initiate this change. It involves clear boundaries with house guests- if someone comes in your home and your dog tries to jump up and greet them, the person needs to ignore the dog until it calms back down. Petting or speaking sweetly to the dog will reinforce to them that the person is happy they are being jumped on. It takes self control around cute puppies !

Separation Anxiety will manifest itself when your dog is left alone. Typical signs are excessive barking, destructive behaviors, and signs of distress like hyperventilation. Your dog should be confident and content enough that you can leave them/leave the house for hours in a day without worry. They should be able to relax without depending on your presence in order to do so. Depending on the severity of the Separation Anxiety, working through this can be a process, but is a highly beneficial one. The results will impact your happiness and your dogs happiness for the rest of your life together.

Why is my dog so hyper, and how do I calm them down ?
Owners often confuse a lack of mental stimulation and the inability to ''self-settle'' with a dog that is hyper-active or overly excitable. The desired result can be achieved by teaching your dog to rest, and by ensuring that they receive both mental and physical energy outlets throughout the day. I teach these things regularly.

My father was killed by a pack of dogs (not his) and so I unexpectedly inherited his rescue poi dog, Buddy. Poor Buddy had been locked in a closet for a couple of days before I came to get him because my dad’s yard wasn’t fenced in, so when he went out for what he thought was just a quick trip he left him in the closet. In the grief and suddenness of my dad’s death we didn’t realize Buddy was at the house and trapped. All this to say both myself and Buddy had been through some recent trauma when we met Brock. Truly Brock lived up to his name and immediately helped both Buddy and I find a way to live harmoniously together. Buddy is now such a good dog. At the time we needed help I was at my wit’s end with his constant jumping and mouthing and unwillingness to listen and because of the circumstances surrounding my dad’s death (even though Buddy had nothing to do with it) I was worried about having him around our other pets and my children. Thanks to Brock’s help and training we have been able to fully welcome Buddy into our ‘ohana and can’t imagine not having him as a part of our lives. Mahalo Maui Dog Whisperer!

I highly suggest Brock as a dog trainer, easy going and flexible, loads of experience with many different breeds, I love sitting down and picking his brain on certain breeds and their personalities. Brock has proven his methods to me multiple times with multiple dogs, I would definitely advise to give him a call and see if Brock fits the bill for your pets needs!!

I can’t say enough about Brock. We contacted him after we adopted our newest pooch from the pound. Brock was able to work through a number of issues our dog had. In turn as “Miguel” learned corrective behaviors we did as well! Thanks to Brock we have all come out winners !!

The level of care Brock gave to my dog was unmatched on Maui. He changed my dogs nervous ticks and anxiety into a confident well manured dog. He gave me confidence my dog needed. Really it comes down us as dog owners. I recommend him to all and anyone who has dogs. Whether you just need a little behavior training or if you have an out of control dog. Maui Dog Whisperer is the one to go see.
