Man & His Mutt

We are so lucky to have found Man & His Mutt as our trusted sitters! It took us quite a while to find a team that really “gets” our anxious, reactive dog after it was clear he would be a challenge for previous sitters we interviewed. We were pleased to see how Alex’s background as a trainer fit perfectly with his needs from the get go, and we quickly came to trust Jen and Jake from his awesome team when they covered our later stays as well. From the first meet and greet, both Alex and his teammate Jen built a strong rapport with our dog and were very easy to work with for scheduling, even despite our area being out of the way for them. They followed our every instruction carefully and Jen even took our dog for jogs, which he loved!! We always appreciate getting photo updates from them and a recap of each visit. We now have the pleasure of working mainly with Jake, who is also a trainer, as the team has grown to include better coverage for our local area. We love that Jake is a great communicator and always makes sure to really love on our pups when we’re away! He welcomes our detailed instructions as well and always checks with us before doing anything not previously discussed. We love getting photos and updates with every visit and we trust that our pups are both in great hands with him every time. On our most recent trip, he even made sure that we would get his updates by sending emails when his texts weren’t going through due to our international phone service. Jake has gone above and beyond many times to make sure our time away is as carefree as possible and we appreciate him so much!! Thank you to the whole Man & His Mutt team for everything you do to give us and our dogs a great experience. We always joke that our one dog is secretly bummed when we get home because he loves spending time with the team that much. 😉

If I could get them 6 stars, I would!! My husband and I have a 7 year old pit boxer mix. He has stranger danger and is reactive to both people and dogs. He’s also INCREDIBLY anxious to the point where he hid and held in is pee/poop in for 72 hours when someone tried to watch him that wasn’t us. That means finding sitters has always been challenging in every city we’ve lived in. On top of that, we both travel a TON for work and personal travel. When we moved to Philly we found Alex C and his team and it has completely changed our lives. We are able to travel freely and know our dog Milo is safe, happy, and cared for. They’ve helped us expand his circle of trust and he has grown SO much in the past year thanks to them. Alex took weeks to get to know Milo before the first sit. He was so patient and is an insanely good trainer for anxious and reactive pups. He just really really knows his stuff and always explains the science/facts/history behind his methods, which we particularly love. Alex C introduced us to Alex F on his team to expand his circle and Milo officially fell in love. Our dog is not one to be affectionate or outwardly like any human besides his mom and dad but Alex F is literally the Milo whisperer and we will never use any trainer/sitter ever again!! Alex F is also just so incredibly kind and patient with Milo. We can tell they really do love him and it warms our hearts that we found that, especially for a dog that so many people mark as “aggressive”. When both Alex’s watch Milo they send us tons of updates and make us feel so comfortable. They’re also just such awesome people and so respectful staying in our home when we travel. We trust them implicitly. Just all around good people who know their stuff. We’ve started the journey to advance our training with them as well, including working on reactivity with other dogs, and we also plan to work on training for Milo when we grow our family and have our first baby. They make us feel hopeful and push our boundaries in the best way (I can be a bit conservative with Milo) while also setting our expectations - they’re super balanced and make us feel comfortable each step. We feel so lucky to have found this crew and could not recommend them more ❤️

I love these guys. I do walks and training so far. Jake is great at helping guide me to make my dog neutral with a friend's dog. The first session, we were able to get them 2 ft away. The second session, even when my dog snapped, he was able to correct it and explain why. We were able to take a walk with the other dog after. Im amazed at all the stuff they have accomplished with both my dogs. My dogs were known as aggressive dogs. They are now going up to neighbors and giving them kisses.

Alex is the best! He worked with us and our dog Rockefeller, a nervous reactive pitbull. The training sessions were information-filled and he gave us homework to work on with Rockefeller every week which was super helpful. Rockefeller’s main trouble was with interacting with other dogs appropriately, and Alex was able to build the foundation with him to the point where now Rockefeller is much better at dealing with other dogs. 10/10 would recommend!

I found Alex at Man and His Mutt thru a Facebook group recommendation. We signed up for the standard training sessions with our dog, Spaghetti. Spaghetti is a working dog; reactive on his leash, high energy, prey drive, needs a lot of stimulation, etc.. Alex taught us a variety of training techniques and when to use different marker words to help us manage Spaghetti's tendencies. During our sessions, we ran through many different scenarios that would/could trigger Spaghetti and Alex took us thru step by step on how to manage those scenarios. We learned so much, and Alex went above and beyond in every session. He even scheduled two extra sessions for us to make up for a lack of "prey" triggers on two of our sessions. Through working with Alex, I really gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of Spaghetti. I love Spaghetti's personality even more.. it's what makes him him! Our walks have gotten a lot calmer and we're more confident when we come across other dogs on our walks. We are more in tune with Spaghetti and understand what sort of stimulation he needs and how to manage that..and we truly love and embrace his crazy self! :) Our other dog, Jett, has even benefitted from Spaghetti's new good habits! We also worked with Gabe, Alex's apprentice, during our sessions who was amazing as well! Thank you Alex and Gabe!
