Maine Refined K9

My dog, Finn, a 30 lb poodle, finished the 4 week program at Maine Refined K9 about a week ago. I am so happy with the results so far! Devin gave him excellent training with consistency, clear communication, playfulness and competent energy. Devin thoroughly explained what he was doing with Finn and why in all our interactions. I was looking for a trainer that would give Finn the foundation of obedience and also work with me so I could competently continue training once Finn was home. Devin has been so patient with me and my million questions! Devin has exceeded my expectations.

My “little” Sage and I started working with Devin in mid-February. Sage came to me when she was around 5 months old. The previous owners did the best they could under the circumstances (they took her in as a little puppy after a family member died) but they just didn’t have the time, space, and environment to keep and train her. For months, she spent most of the day alone tied out in the yard and nights in her crate. She was sweet, wild, and spicy, but also super smart and eager to learn and please. I had dogs before but I hit a brick wall with her. She became more and more reactive and started to snap and bud heads with me big time. I tried on my own for 2 months before I desperately reached out to Devin. I told him that I wanted to learn how to train her myself and he agreed to teach me. We signed up for his 21-day training program, but without the boarding. I have to say that he has been amazing and Sage and I both have improved so much. Besides basic obedience training, I learned from him how to clearly communicate with her, what tools to use (and how to use them), how to play with her and to just have fun, and how I can help her to keep her big feelings in check. I learned from him that she is not aggressive but rather lacks confidence. He introduced her to other dogs (for the first time in her life) and she is now able to interact and be around them. He has a great relationship with her (it is very obvious that she loves seeing and working with him) and he truly understands what she needs to become a confident and safe dog. And he helped me to develop a loving and respectful relationship with her … and the knowledge that I can actually trust her! He is one of the most patient people I have met, and it is very clear that he loves his work and that he is very good at it. I fully trust him and will hand Sage over to him and his team any time. I highly recommend his services to anyone looking for quality and effective dog training. It was worth every penny and then some. I look forward to more sessions and plan to continue to see him after our 21-day program is completed. Thank you Devin!

cannot say enough great things about our Devin, dog trainer. His knowledge, patience, and skill are truly remarkable. We initially enrolled our Cane Corso, Angus in his month-long board & train program, and the transformation was incredible. He worked extensively on obedience, reactivity, and overall behavior, and the results exceeded our expectations. What impressed me most is how well he understands dogs and how clearly he communicates with both the dog and the owner. The training wasn’t just about commands—it was about building trust, structure, and confidence. After the board & train, we continue to attend weekly sessions to maintain socialization and reinforce good behavior! I started my German Shepherd in one-on-one training sessions when he was five months old. He is a working line, and I was looking for help with obedience and general training. During the initial session, Devin and I spoke at length about training and my goals for Finley. From there, we began working on obedience, socialization, and many other aspects of training. Throughout the sessions, Devin not only worked with Finley but also taught me the same skills so I could continue training on my own. This approach helped me build Finley’s skills and confidence while strengthening our communication and partnership. I have been extremely pleased with the entire process and how individualized the training has been for both Finley and me. I would highly recommend Devin and his business to anyone seeking high-quality dog training. Without a doubt, I feel that I have gotten my money’s worth and more from these sessions. It’s also worth mentioning that the facility is in a very convenient location and is always extremely well-maintained and clean. It’s clear that Devin and his staff take great pride in what they do.

I put my dog Nova into a 4 week program with Devin. She is 9 months old and really struggled with listening and liked to run away and ignore any and all recalls. After a few scary moments, I decided for her safety it was time to get some real training done so I could get better control of her. Devin was able to provide me with all the tools to help Nova succeed and also went above and beyond to train Nova with her recall. Not only did he do recall but all the basics and beyond! Nova came home a completely different dog, it’s almost like she actually wants to learn now, it’s amazing! Her recall is beautiful, she’s so much more confident, and she’s simply in a place where I can trust her.
