King K9 Academy

We took our dog, Rusty, to King K9 Academy hoping for some drastic behavior improvements and we were not disappointed. Rusty is a rescue from Georgia that had a lot of insecurities, and an uncontrollable reactive disposition. These behaviors made life very stressful for Rusty and for us, so we decided to look for some help. Fortunately, we were referred to King K9 Academy, and we were able to get Rusty in for a consultation quickly. Joshua was amazing! He picked up quickly on Rusty's issues and he created a solid training plan. A few weeks later, Rusty began an intensive 3-week board and training regimen. As a result of this training, and some ongoing work at home, we have a completely different dog. Walks have become a pleasure, rather than a dreaded, stress-inducing chore. Rusty has even been able to transition to some off leash activity, which he thoroughly enjoys. Rusty is far more relaxed and makes better decisions. His poor reactivity to previously stressful situations is nearly gone. He now stays composed and watches others pass by, without responding. We are delighted to hear comments from others about what a well-behaved boy we have. This is not something we thought we would ever hear, prior to Rusty's training. We are incredibly grateful to Joshua, and King K9 Academy, for helping us understand how to work with our dog, and for teaching Rusty how to achieve his potential. We adopted our 1 yr old German shepherd named Ransome from a wonderful rescue in Ct. They fostered and worked on training with him for 4 months. When we brought him home, all was great. He settled in pretty quickly. We wanted him to be happy and feel loved so we pretty much let him do whatever he wanted. Big Mistake! He did really well with my husband but with me, he was terrible. He bit me constantly, not aggressively, but wanted to play. He was drawing blood on a daily basis. He chewed 2 leather sofas, every carpet in the house, clothes and even baseboard. I couldn’t take him for walks because he went crazy when he saw cars go by. He is a very powerful boy, 90lbs. I started private training and worked with him for 8 weeks. He seemed to be getting worse. One day he had a chew toy and I walked by him and he growled at me. That was it, I didn’t know what to do. I spoke with Kelly at the rescue and explained what was going on. We always had the option of sending him back but we loved this dog and didn’t want him to go back. Kelly recommended King K9 academy. I emailed Josh that day and he called me that evening. We went over the problems I was having with Ransome and within a day, he had come up with a plan. We did private training once a week with Josh and he explained everything we were doing wrong. I was very hesitant to use an e-collar because I thought it would hurt him. Josh had us put the collar on our arm to see what it felt like. I felt a lot better about using it. After the first session, we noticed a difference with Ransome. Every week we addressed one of his issues and what a difference it made. We now have a dog that does not bite me, has stopped chewing the furniture (we got a new sofa ) and I can actually walk him down our driveway and he doesn’t go crazy when he sees cars. Josh gave us the knowledge and the confidence to properly train Ransome. I don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t met Josh. He is the best trainer. He is calm, easy to talk to and really knows dogs. I highly recommend king k9 academy.

When we picked up Missy, (our 21 month old yellow lab) after her 3 week training period we were immediately impressed with the progress that she had made. We felt that all of our concerns were addressed – from pulling on the leash, jumping on people, and poor recall at random times. We were nervous about maintaining all of her improvements, but after receiving our 2 hour training with Missy it was apparent that Joshua is not only an excellent dog trainer, but an excellent communicator and teacher. We are a month out from her training and we couldn’t be more pleased with her progress and our progress! We highly recommend training through King K9 Academy and feel that it was well worth the investment. Joshua is committed to establishing and maintaining the best relationship between the owner and their dog.

Joshua with King K9 Academy is a great teacher who truly understands what a dog needs from us to bring out their potential. My dog Annie and I came to King K9 Academy needing help training things like recall, heel, counter-surfing, and jumping on friends and family out of excitement. We did one on one training once a week with Joshua for the duration of the program. Joshua was able to teach me how to consistently communicate with Annie and the results have been outstanding. I brought Rockie, my 4 year old Australian Shepherd, to King K9 Academy to work on her reactivity. While we worked on her basic obedience Josh was very patient and calm and helped me learn how to better communicate with Rockie while using an e-collar to set her up for success. Prior to working with Josh, Rockie had a pretty good loose leash walk with me, but wouldn't do that for family/friends and we never had a proper heel. Now she has such a good heel and we are on our way towards our goal of off leash heeling. She will even heel for other family members now when she used to pull for them. It is such a relief that after 5 weeks of private sessions with Josh she can heel properly and isn't reacting to other dogs/people and will give me her full attention if she sees dogs nearby. Her overall obedience training came so far in those 5 sessions and her come command, which she previously used as optional at times, (and more often than not wouldn't for others) is so good now and she immediately stops and runs back to us when called. It is such a relief to have her not only more responsive to her commands when I give them, but also to have her more responsive to others as well. He gave me the tools I needed to get her obedience where it needed to be, to help maintain it, and to continue to work on it. He gave me many helpful tips on what to do if we are rushed by other off leash dogs to avoid her slipping and resorting back to old habits. I can't believe how far she has come in the 5 weeks we worked with Josh, she's like a different dog and I am so thankful I found King K9 Academy. I have already recommended Josh to family and recommend him to anyone seeking professional training.
