My 15-month-old, 95 pound, female Malamute, Dixie, had her own habits of chasing deer & refusing to respond to calls to come—she had a persistent issue with ignoring all commands when she was outside the house. She’s very smart and very stubborn—so off to the best place going: Kabler School for Dogs. It’s a Six-week Residential School—like sending your dog to boarding school. Thanks to Nick Lentz, Candy—who runs a tight shop—and the incredibly useful Clarkie who always makes the school reachable for a nervous dog-parent, Dixie came back to me as a differently behaving dog—her sweet performative personality intact—trained and cooperative, Dixie-ness intact. They train YOU at pickup & in MULTIPLE follow-up appointments— you get so much more than you paid for: you have a full school of support staff to make sure that your dog maintains her level of obedience, and that you maintain consistency in her training. Today I took her for her second blowup visit where she behaved perfectly indoors and Outdoors walking in the streets. On the way home, I had to stop at a Walmart supercenter, and I took Dixie in with me. We were in the store for about a half an hour, and she listened to every command without fail, sat next to me and stayed without moving while I was looking at things, laid down when I told her to and stayed without moving. Dixie is the most well-behaved malamute I have ever seen, and this is thanks for the skill, effort, and ongoing devotion of the incredible staff at Kabler School For Dogs. Frankly, my wife was pressing me to get rid of Dixie and rehome her on a farm because she was so out of control before her stay at Kabler. Now that Dixie has completed her training? She and my wife have bonded together and a way that I would never have expected before she went to Kabler. It’s become a love affair between the two of them. When I ask my wife about rehoming Dixie now. She glares at me with a “don’t you dare even mention that” look. No better investment in training a dog that you love, but who can, and will, run your life and make it miserable. Now? A trained, obedient dog, with her personality intact, and just as lovable as ever. Easier to love because she’s no longer a discipline problem of any type. Dixie is a dog who behaves like the perfectly well-mannered dog everyone wants—I’ve never been happier with a Malamute’s behavior and she’s my eighth Malamute, and clearly the most difficult of all of them, put together. She’s the dog that I can trust and take anywhere! I Should mention that Dixie is my PTSD service Dog. Eight years as a sniper in the USMC, followed by two years in CIA‘s ground branch, along with another significant trauma in my personal life, made her a necessity. After her training at the Kabler School For Dogs, Dixie is about the best service animal I’ve ever seen.Kabler’s program is worth EVERY dollar it costs, and it’s worth much more. Great trainers, weekly report cards & videos on progress. A+ grade—And I was a really tough grader while teaching at Rutgers University Graduate School of Management—And during my 24 years of active legal practice.
