K9 REHAB LLC

We visited K9 Rehab from LI on Thursday 6/26 with our 1 year old Canucu, Skippy. Skippy is a very nervous and reclusive puppy. Within one hour of meeting her Justin was able to calm her and earn her trust. She spent the rest of our session calm and relaxed. She has a way to go to let go of her anxiety but Justin certainly showed us the path forward. Integrating a dog into a family is a continuous work in progress. If you are having difficulty with the process Justin is the person to reach out to. His understanding of the human - dog interaction is remarkable. In most cases it is the humans that need the guidance in order to help their dog adjust. Justin and his staff should be your go to place.

3 years ago, I began the journey of fostering Bart aka “Mr. Sensitive” through Dog Star Rescue. His life from the beginning was chaotic. Multiple vet visits, overnight stays included, as he became very ill with Parvo in his early life. In his return back to me as his foster, I did what a great percentage of foster moms and dads do, “I foster failed.” Although, in my opinion it was a foster success as this dog saved me just as much as I helped to save him. However, things only got more chaotic at home and especially in public spaces whenever we tried to bring Bart along for an adventure. He was aggressive towards my own father arriving to my home, aggressive towards any plumbers, electricians etc coming to do maintenance, and was attacked by another dog while on a walk and was not afraid to attack back. I knew I had to do something to make things easier for Bart, for me, for my other dog, and for my relationship with my boyfriend. I was very nervous and had no idea where to begin or who to call for the right training, not only for Bart, but for us as humans as well. I was not comfortable with dropping him off somewhere with a trainer and hoping for the best! After much research and following what Justin has done with dogs over the years, I knew immediately this was the place and right trainer for Bart. Leading up to the two day seminar, I will be honest, I was feeling an array of emotions… nervousness, fear and at times doubtful. In arriving on Saturday morning, when Bart was welcomed in, his reaction was exactly what I expected. He went nuts! The same way his behavior would be when I pull up to the vet or even through a Dunkin Donuts drive through. Which I must add, it’s recommended to give him trazodone prior to his vet visits and the entire foyer area of the vet has to clear for Bart to be able to come inside. Using constructive criticism with a vast knowledge of dog and human psychology, Justin brought light to our situation. Bart needed to learn self confidence, self control and how not to be possessive (a lot more than that but it all stems from these three things). But hey, I’ll admit, I let him get away with poor behavior for the last 3 years, as I spoiled and babied the hell out of him with the mindset of always feeling bad for everything he went through, so it’s all he’s ever known! From the beginning of Saturday upon arrival to the ending on Sunday and leaving, it’s remarkable what a difference in Bart’s behavior. I never thought I would witness such a drastic change in only two days. What Justin and his team has helped us with along with the extensive E-collar training has been a life saver. I wish I had the proper training and knowledge 3 years ago. I highly recommend Justin and his team at K9 Rehab. There is a program suited for your dog within their facility! I am forever grateful and look forward to being part of the K9 rehab family!
