K9 Kompanion Training

Both of my dogs went through the board and train program and K9 Kompanions after we moved to the area from North Carolina. Communication was amazing while my dogs were away from us for 4 weeks. I could see their progress through the daily photos and videos, and when the dogs were reacclimatized to our house, we received our own personal training session and videos to help with our homework. They even showed our kids how to do everything. We recently moved to a large property with a lot of wildlife, so good recall was the most important thing to me. My dogs have started to run after deer and will come right back when called! Our Vizsla, Walter, rarely ever leaves our sight and off-leash hiking has become his favorite activity! Our anxious rescue dog, Scully, used to be a flight risk and now she stays close by. Walking two large, high energy dogs is a breeze. Do your homework to make the investment worthwhile. We brought Macintosh for training about 6 months after adopting him, based on 2 referrals from a friend and neighbor. He was 2 years old when he started training; fun loving and high energy. Walking him was tough due to severe pulling and lack of impulse control. He is very social but loves to jump on people and dogs. We tried reward training for 6 months and classes at Petco/Petsmart, but he needed more. He went to K9K for about 2 1/2 weeks in the Board & Train program and came home SO improved! This is a much more comprehensive and consistent training program. We received videos of Mac in training to show us how to keep it up. When K9K brought him home, they checked out the house to recommend how to continue his daily training (place, out of sight stays). They must have spent 2 hours with us to review how he responded to training, what they learned about him, and how we should continue. Then we all walked him teach us leash and Heel reinforcement. I was really impressed at how well they had gotten to know Mac, not just the things he needed to work on, but all the things we love about him. Make no mistake, consistent reinforcement is key. But this training put Mac in a position where he “gets it”, and we focus on reinforcement. We used to come home from walks with sore arms and so frustrated. Now it’s just fun to walk Mac. It’s amazing what K9K did for him. As an additional note, as a Training graduate, Mac goes for Play Groups and boarding. He absolutely loves it there with Tiffany, Kat & Bella, and we know he’s in good hands!

I found K9 Companion through a friend. I was desperate for a great training place because I had a six month black lab who was already 60 pounds and too strong for my boyfriend and I with crazy puppy energy. We had been on top of training early, doing everything we could at home, and attending a once a week class. But it was incredibly hard to get him to calm down, not jump on people, and walk on the leash. We sent him to K9 companion for three weeks over the summer and our lives were CHANGED!!! I cannot recommend this place enough. Tiffany and Cat are so friendly, warm, and experienced. We were nervous going into it, unsure of what the outcomes could be, and concerned about the cost. They returned Blake to us in Amherst Mass (an hour and a half away) and spent the afternoon with us teaching everything they taught Blake. And they had videos of him doing different commands to look back on. Also the whole time he was there they sent us daily photos in a group chat to keep us updated. It was amazing! Blake could walk on the leash with me holding it with two fingers, when prior to training he pulled so aggressively, I could not walk him alone. He also learned the skill of "Place" which has made our lives so great. When people come over he waits in place until he is calm enough to greet them and not jump. We use place outside and can have him off leash anywhere! He is now only one year old and people constantly ask about our training methods and are shocked about his listening skills. We love having K9 companion as a resource now for boarding, dog playdates, and future training options. It is sooooo worth the money and a great investment in having a wonderful companion for life. We hope to send him back at some point to get his "Good Citizen Certificate" .
